The best method I have seen is under leopard set up a user account and put parental controls on it. You can give it a list of websites that you will allow the account to access. The account will only be able to access the websites you put on the list. As for a program that will filter everything, I have no idea.

[Josh Evans] “I edit using HDV footage. Is it worth upgrading to eSATA drives? Or is it not really worth it. Im guessing it would only really be worth it if I was editing in True HD ??”

If you ever work with multiple streams of video it can definitely make a difference. And if you want to get out of the HDV format (there are many reason to do so) and capture using prores, then it makes even more difference.

Maximum memory usage in Final Cut Pro is 2.5 GB

The rest of your ram will allow you to have additional applications open at the same time as FCP with out effecting the performance of FCP.

June 24, 2008 at 4:13 am in reply to: syncing folders suggestions very welcome!

Why not just keep it always on the external and then just work off of that from both the desktop and laptop. That way you are always accessing the data from the SAME place, thus no syncing required.

The folder and question mark mean that your computer cannot find the system hard drive. The hard drive may have failed. Sign up at he Apple Store and have them check the drive out.

June 24, 2008 at 4:10 am in reply to: Main Hard Disk Errors – what to do ?

[John Berardi] “It says the disk need repair. It however wont give me the option to repair it itself. “

Thats because it cant run those repairs on the hard drive that it is booted from. Boot from your install disk and run the repair from the disk utility on there.

June 24, 2008 at 4:08 am in reply to: Apple Compressor 2 is making me angry

[walter biscardi] “If you read his post, he is running FCP 5”

Yes, which also brings up the point that FCP 5 is not intel compatible and he says he is running it on a MBP. It wasn’t until the 5.1 cross-grade that it became compatible with Intel machines. And if I am not mistaken didn’t FCP 5 come with Compressor 3, I believe Compressor 2 was with FCP 4/HD.

June 24, 2008 at 3:57 am in reply to: “Master Templates” Path

FCP it self does not have templates, however you can change the location to one of your choosing ether at install or by changing the location in each of the apps that have templates and added content (motion, DVD Studio Pro, Live Type, and Soundtrack Pro) it is under the setting of each app. I have mine set to a my media drive to save space on my system drive.

Oh and the studio install FAST if you don’t install the extras. I recently did an erase and install of my OS and just reinstalled just the studio apps and then just linked them to the templates and extra content on the media drive.
