  • Main Hard Disk Errors – what to do ?

    I have a Mac G5 – with 10.4 OS

I recently Verified disk in the utility program – it came up with a lot of errors in red
    Including:
Volume Bit map needs minor repair
    Invalid volume free block count

The underlying task reported failure on exit

It says the disk need repair. It however wont give me the option to repair it itself.
I took it to a mac reseller ( melrose mac ) – they said there is no use re formating the drive and re installing. He said I need to buy a new hard drive.

Just wanted a second opinion since I can see them saying that so they get more business
Do I have another option ???

    – thanks, john

[John Berardi] “It says the disk need repair. It however wont give me the option to repair it itself. “

Thats because it cant run those repairs on the hard drive that it is booted from. Boot from your install disk and run the repair from the disk utility on there.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
Don’t let technology get in the way of your creativity!
