Use media manager to make a COMPLETE copy of the project onto an external drive.

First try it on a different mac, it the same thing happens, it is definitely the drive.
If it is the drive, then you could try and take the drive itself out of the enclosure to see if it is just a bad enclosure. Keep in mind if you do that then the manufacturer will most likely deny service because you have voided the warranty by opining it.
If the drive it self still does not respond out of the enclosure then you will need to send it off to a data recovery specialist that will cost you anywhere from 200-6000 to get data depending on what all they have to do.
My motto as far as data goes is, “If the data is important keep it in two different places.”

Not ALL h264 files are compressed equally. One of your files probably has a much higher amount of compassion thus taking it much longer to convert to something else.

I believe people are reading them, the reason they are confused is because you posted this question on a Final Cut Pro Forum, a forum where questions about the use of FCP are asked, so it is assumed unless you state otherwise that you are going to be using that video with FCP. You never told anyone that until later.

Along with proper exporting like mentioned you should also change the keynote project properties to a standard video format dementions. You said yours are set to 1024×768 that is a computer monitor resolution. The video will look better on DVD if comes from a standard video format size in Keynote.
I love useing keynote to make graphics and simple animations for video projects. And because I work in HD I just use Keynotes preset sizes and they always look great.

Your system is just fine for HDV, all you need is a newer version of FCP.

What are the specs of your current machine it may handle HDV just fine. The ONLY thing in the info you listed that will not work with HDV is your version of FCP.

How is it connected, that could be the issue as the Apple TV is NOT designed to connect to computer monitors, only HDTVs.
