Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Apple TV files

  • Posted by Luke Pearson on September 22, 2008 at 3:05 pm

I’ve made videos on final cut pro to be put on my apple tv units. The videos were shot standard definition anamorphic (16:9). I then exported them as quicktime files straight from the timeline. I then used visual HuB to create files for the apple tv. The files play 16:9 inside of ITunes. I’ve got the apple tv hooked up to my high def. computer monitor. When the videos play back, they are squeezed to 4:3. How can I get these videos to play 16:9? Thanks!

[Luke Pearson] ” I’ve got the apple tv hooked up to my high def. computer monitor.”

How is it connected, that could be the issue as the Apple TV is NOT designed to connect to computer monitors, only HDTVs.

Why not use Compressor? There are presets for this very function.

    Thanks guys for your reply.

Its a full HD monitor. The menus play 16:9 fine, just not the videos.

I have fcp studio 1 so compressor doesn’t do a whole lot. Visual Hub has a lot of controls so I chose to render that way.

It must be the AppleTV is not recognizing the 16:9 flag (if there is one). It is up to you to change the PAR on your TV (i.e. computer monitor) just lke you would a DVD.

What other choices do you have besides wide? You need to have the monitor fix the aspect, or tell whatever you used to compress the appletv file to embed a 16:9 flag so Quicktime will read it.

And when you go wide, it doens’t stretch it? What happens with zoom (that shouldn’t work, but maybe it will). I think this is probably a limitation of your monitor? I forget, but can’t you adjust the PAR in the apple tv as well?

thanks again jeremy for the suggestions.

none of the other monitor settings do anything for it. I looked in apple tv but dont see anywhere to change the settings. Do you know it is there for sure?

No. I can check tomorrow, though. how are you connected to your monitor hdmi or component? When you play the file in qt is it 4×3 or 16×9?
