Did you just reinstall over the top of what os there or did you erase the system drive and install every thing from scratch?

Oh no not useless at all. It’s great for running multiple applications. Also some apps like compressor can use multiple cores.

Why you ask, well simply put because FCP was not written to be able to do that.
The main programing for FCP was done before there were multi core processers, so the ability to use multi core processers could not have been written in. And for FCP to have full multicore support it would need to be compleatly rewritten, just like a it would need to be compleatly rewritten to become a 64 bit program and therefor overcome the ram limitations of a 32 bit program.
With the next OS 10.6 Snow Leopard being fully 64bit most people are expecting the next version of FCP to be a compleate rewrite making it 64 bit and giving it multi core support.

It is because the other computer somehow set the permissions of the drive to only allow the user on that machine read and wright files.
Simple solution leopard gives you the option to ignore those permissions. Select the drive press command + I to bring up the info window at the bottom check the box that says ignore permissions on this volume.

So you dump Apple buy ALL new software, yes ALL because none of the software you have on your mac can will run on Windows.
You then buy a 15″ Windows machine, please keep in mind that those computers are not as nicely physically engineered as a machine from Apple so your new 15″ Windows machine is going to be bigger physically then a Apple 15″, and quite possibly it will almost be as big as the 17″Apple machine you say is to big.

How stupid is that? DAMN STUPID. This shuts out the AJA I/O HD (because it uses the ONE FW bus your computer has), the MXO2 (that connects via Express34) and the MXO2 mini and I/O Express…that also connect via Express34. So the MacBook Pro is now NOT a Pro model for video. Only a pro for…business and photographers? And people who shoot RED onto SD cards? Or does red shoot to CF cards. “

If your doing pro video and want a portable machine why would you not want the 17″. Some say it is to big , it’s NOT to big.

Aid I FAIL to see how it is to big. In my opinion the 15 is to small if you want to be doing video.

FCP is a 32bit application. 32bit applications have a limit being able to only use 4GB of ram. FCP reserves 1.5GB of ram for drivers and frameworks and that only leaves 2.5GB of ram for FCP to use when rendering.

So depending on how much memory you have, that 50% free memory may be completely normal.
