Explain to the client that HDV is not s good codec to edit and long GOP structure causes difficulty editing and does a horrible job preserving quality. Recumbent to them using ProRes.

Well if is saying there is a problem with the items in the startup folder then why not check what’s in the startup folder and possibly deleat them.

You are trying to edit h264 video files. H264 is NOT a editing codec.
For more info on how to convert those files and what to convert them to do a search on the cow. Questions like yours comes up all the time.

Telling me you tested it on another camera does not answer any of the questions I asked. So again.
Did you record HDV or DV with that camera?
is the camera set to output HDV or DV?
Is FCP set to receive a HDV or DV signal?All of those things must match.

Michael consider yourself lucky you have not had any problems editing from USB yet. But that does not mean you should. I can drive without a seatbelt but that does not mean I should.

That’s perfectly fine. It will actually run faster from a hard drive then from a DVD anyway.
Simply sold down the option key when booting up and choose what you want to boot from.

Well ALL DVDs are standard definition so 720 is normal.

YES stop using USB for video editing. USB works in bursts of data and video editing needs constant data.
Chris was asking about printing to tape. There is no such thing as printing to web, you compress for the web.
