Hi Peter,

Thanks for the workarounds! The project file I’m creating in Motion actually has a background, so the alpha channel thing wouldn’t actually apply to this, however, I will export out a self contained, DV movie file from Motion so I can get the great Volumetrix effect. (The project is 720×480 DV). Typically I create this file at the end once all the feedback from the client has been incorporated, so it’s not that big a deal.

I’ve used Volumetrix inside FCP on titles and graphics before and it’s been terrific, but this is the first time I’ve needed to use it inside Motion to create some full screen titles/graphics. Just wondering if this is a problem because I’m still using FC Studio 1? Thanks again for your help.

But isn’t over kill if you already have a CRT external monitor to color correct to? I’ve seen 23″ ACD on eBay for half the price of a new one, and I’ve also seen the MXO on eBay as well sell for (this was just yesterday) $700. So, for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less than the price of a decent CRT you can have a color correct monitor hooked up to your MXO, and your LHe free to handle capture and layback.

You may run into some problems driving two 30-inchers with just the one card. It’s going to half the cards RAM between the two monitors leaving precious little left for Motion. I run one 30″ ACD, and when Motion is pushed too hard (which seems to happen very quickly on my X1900XT) you’ll find it extremely difficult to use even with RAM preview. Many times the only way I can actually get decent frame rates while working is to never use the “Best” view. Good luck!

Also, go to your system prefs, open up international, and click “Show input in menu bar.” Typically a US flag will show up in the menu, and if you click this you’ll get an option to show character palette. That’s a useful tool when using the option key does help.

THanks for the reply Warren. I’ve been thinking of doing the same setup, but now that the format war is over, I don’t see how we’re not going to get an upgrade to DVDSP to include BR support. I’ve only worked on one project where this could have come in handy, and don’t expect any other projects in the near future to need this, so I think I’m going to wait for the update/upgrade.

Having said that, if something does come up and I can’t wait for DVDSP, did you find the process pretty painless, or at least not too time consuming?

Agreed Jerry. Maybe this will be the red hot poker that motivates Apple to introduce – at the very least basic – Blu-ray authoring in DVDSP!

I agree with you and thought I was essentially giving the same advise you do; i.e. look it up (search) first and try to figure it out for yourself before coming here to ask a repetitive question. I agree that it’s very frustrating seeing the same questions constantly asked, but I’ve also noted that typically the forum leaders and other long time users tend to avoid those questions like the plague, and leave it for the other forum users to answer. And as well they should! I think that’s a perfectly acceptable way a forum should work.

Also, I had forgotten about the FCP Basics forum, and agree that’s the place to go first for new users.
