I totally understand where you’re coming from. A lot of times, “noobie” questions are asked quite often and many of the regulars here can get tired of answering the same questions over and over again, and sometimes they might come off as a little out of sorts. Don’t let it get you down too much. They’re trying their best (and doing a great job 99.9% of the time) to keep everyone happy.

I’ve got two suggestions for the future that’ll save you and the others here time and energy and get us moving onward and upward. Try searching here first. Think of any term you can think of, use the Help in FCP or the actual books that came with it, and at least get the terms as close to the actual thing as possible. Not only will this help with questions asked here, but many times you’ll get your answer before you ask, or lead you down an even better road! Second, come here and read all the posts you can stand. Or at least the ones you’re curious about. I make it a point to read the post I have questions about first, the posts where I might be able to help next, and the other last. I don’t get to everything, but there’s been so many things I’ve learned just by reading these posts, without even posing the question! 🙂

I got totally spoiled by all the great local pizza places in Seattle, and when I moved back to the east coast and tried Papa Johns for the first time I nearly did what the video showed. Thankfully there’s a local pub/pizza joint that has 100’s of different beers on tap not to mention the ones in bottles, and they make the only pizza I’ll eat now. All fresh and homemade. It’s even way better than Magic Mushroom Pizza (for those of you who know of them).

I was just wondering how many people here are running the new Studio 2 with OS Tiger 10.4.9(or later)? I’m needing to upgrade soon, but I don’t want to move to Leopard yet. Is this too risky an adventure? My system works wonderfully now, and hate to risk more than normal.* Studio 2 doesn’t really get any benefit from the Leopard upgrade right?

* Of course, I’ll be making all necessary back ups of my drives and installing first on a fresh drive with 10.4.11.

Missing it.

Use these steps to make your own settings:

Create a new project > Create 4 bins; Filters, Generators, Transitions, Audio > Drag into those folders the Filters, Generators, etc that you use the most > Now select these bins and drag them over to the Favorites Bin in the Effects tab/window > Save the project as “basic setup” > With a sequence open, go to Button List under Tools > Find the buttons you like to use and drag them to the Button Bar on the Timeline > Then save the Button layout under Button Bars in the Tools Menu > Save project again > Do essentially the same thing with the Keyboard Layout under the Tools Menu > Save project again > Then arrange you windows the way you like them > Then go to Arrange under the Windows Menu and Save the layout > then save your project one more time > Close the project and quite FCP.

Now any project you open up you’ll always start with a nice group of favorites, the windows set up the way you want, etc. If someone changes any other these, just load up your saved Button Bar, Keyboard Layout, or Window layout. If someone gets rid or crashes the system and therefore deleting your favorites, just open the “basic setup” project you created, copy the Favorite Bins you created, save the project and there you go. They’ll be in your Effects tab/window in the Favorites bin again.

I have a multi-clip keyboard layout, a color correction window layout, even a paper edit layout, etc for any type of know situation I might be editing in. Makes life very easy.

I know you asked Walter this, but I’d like to chime in on this as well, if that’s OK? 😉

My general practice for lower thirds is to use a combination of Title3D and either a Solid Color or Vector Shape Generators. If there’s movement everything is keyable, and if not a simple Fade transition works wonders.

If I need to “kick it up a notch” – to use the parlance of our times – I’ll go into Motion. From what I understand in the new Studio 2 you are able to change many attributes of Motion files inside FCP. I, however, am still working with Studio 1 – not changing what’s not broke. If I have multiple lower thirds I love the program AutoMotion from DigitalHeaven.com This allows you to make a template, and then rattle off as many lower thirds as you need, all with specific information to them, in a matter of seconds. It’s worth it’s weight in gold!

I’ve fortunately not had this exact problem either, but I have had similar problems with objects (usually any type of graphics, Title3D or otherwise) jumping on renders. Doesn’t happen often anymore, but it seemed to be somehow tied to big projects with tons of media. Strange.

I would do when this happened is use the render manager and get rid of all my render files, quit FCP, and then trash the prefs and cache. (I think there’s a free script floating around out there that will do this for you.) Open up FCP, re-do all my prefs (I have a saved sequence for this) and then render. It’s worked for me every time, though I honestly can’t remember the last time I’ve had to do this.

Interesting. I wonder why? I mean, I bet they save time and money by not going, but I ould think the chance to have face time in front of people who might not normally even consider Apple balances that out.
