Same horrible problem, on CS6 Mac here. Hope it’s fixed in CC.

February 26, 2013 at 6:30 pm in reply to: Set Matte doesn’t work

You guys nailed it. What I need, almost every day, is to use one layer as a TRACK MATTE for multiple layers, and I thought that was what Set Matte WAS. I am flabbergasted that this doesn’t exist. The ultimate would be for AE to just have a pickwhip like the one for parenting, and the ability to drag it to ANY layer ANYWHERE to set the Track Matte, allowing multiple layers to use one matte.

Darby, I’ll try your workarounds, and thank you!

Seems to have worked. Thank you! I wish I could download your understanding of this stuff. I can learn programming languages, and have before, but just being able to comprehend the operations that need to take place to achieve the goal, that’s something else entirely.

  • Hey Todd Kopriva and/or Adobe, if you’re listening: This is one of many elementary incapabilities within Premiere “Pro” that is entirely absurd. And yeah, I’m filling out a feature request now.

This is one thing that I really miss about Motion. This, among many other things in 3d comps, was SOOOO much easier to do.

It has never worked for me, on CS 3,4,5, and 5.5 on the Mac. And yeah, it’s super-annoying.

You may know these tips, but if you don’t they could be helpful. Pressing the * key on the numeric keypad while audio previewing will add a marker on the fly. Dragging while holding the Cmd or Ctrl key will scrub audio, and the playhead stays wherever you stop dragging.

It’s funny that they list “Roderick Jaynes” as an editor using FCP. That’s the Coen Brothers’ pseudonym for themselves.

Not sure if this will help you, but you could use the Rename function in FCP 7:

Select all footage clips in your Stock Footage project
Right-click on the icon of any one of them and choose Rename>File to Match Clip

Now all of your clips are renamed in the Finder, and eventually you will be able to import them into FCPX
