first question to ask is: Do you have sufficient handles on both clips for the transition? Trim one or both sides to be sure you have enough media for the effect.

A future release of Pro Export FCP 3.0 will have AAF export in it, AAF support didn’t make it into the 3.0 release in time.

I frequently run Xpress Pro and FCP together on the same machine. The only issue is if I have a deck attached, FCP can’t use it because the Avid takes it or the other way around. Anyway, as long as I don’t have a deck attached I have no issues running them at the same time, and I even less than no problem running them separately but installed on the same machine.

Why not make a photo montage?
Create a graphic that you want your images to be in, then use AE to make jpg sequences from some of your video clips (like 5 frames a second is plenty). This will give you THOUSANDS of images which is good. Use MacOSaiX to create a montage from the folder of thousands of images to look like your graphic.

Other than export OMF with embedded audio out of the Avid and then import that into Nuendo?
