Do what’s best for you in this time and place. I’ve worked for CNN, Foxwoods Resort Casino, Primerica Financial Services and since 1998 for myself in two companies. Each job decision I made along the way was based on my needs and desires at that time.
If you feel you deserve $50k/year, then ask for it from the other production company. If creative freedom matters but you’re ok with less salary, then you go with the production company. I will say it doesn’t matter how many Emmys they have, they’re only as good as their last project.
One thing I will tell you is I didn’t over think anything. Once I knew what I wanted I made the move. That’s how I run my company today. I look at pros and cons, make a decision and move forward. Lingering on the decision only makes it harder.

That’s a question for whomever airs the show. My guess is the answer is going to be you have to blur it to meet the FCC decency standards, but depending on whom airs your show, that will be your answer. Any answer we give is merely a guess. Is this not covered in the production guidelines you received from the broadcasters?

[Logan Little] “I work for a non-profit company, and we’re creating a Wizard of Oz fundraising campaign that will conclude with a video of that scene, with our CEO doubling as the man behind the curtain.
So basically, I’d like to swap out the man behind the curtain’s face with a different one.
“You’re a non-profit looking to get sued? Use that scene, replace the actor and you’ll be looking at a pretty major lawsuit, especially since the movie is currently touring in it’s 75th anniversary release.

The client called me and spent 10 minutes defending his honor as a business man, telling me he paid the photogs up front, and telling me that it came down to whether I felt comfortable starting work without having a signed contract in hand.”
No clue on why he went off the deep end like that. Answer is “No, I don’t feel comfortable starting work without a contract. I have all the materials and will be ready to start as soon as the contract is received.”
We have two rules here at the company. No work begins without a signed contact. No Master work is delivered without the final payment.

Premiere Pro runs just fine on an iMac. I have a three year old iMac at home and two 1 year old iMacs at the shop and we’ve been running PPro on them for almost 2 years now.
That being said, there is no comparison between CS6 and CC running on the iMacs. Whatever Adobe did under the hood, CC is operates much faster and smoother than CS6.
But there’s no issues running CS6. Be sure to max out the RAM to 32GB and get that upgraded graphics card.

Seriously? Why? You edit with 4k proxies first and then bring the RAW in at end color grade.
Heck I don’t even with HD RAW because it bogs down the systems so much. Editing 4k RAW all the way through a project is going to take a major system with dual graphics card and a MAJOR media array.

[Matt Campbell] “In PPro, is there any way to change your output settings to display a specific frame size and frame rate for external monitoring? Or is this like an auto thing, that needs to be set while setting the sequence settings”
With most AJA Video products you can set a “Secondary” output of your choosing and switch the output to that. This is independent from PPro.

[Michael DeJohn] “Who has used Premiere Pro CC and the rest of the Adobe CC suite in a project of this scale and what did your workflow look like? What problems did you run into? What post production platform would you recommend in this situation?”
We’ve been cutting “This American Land” for PBS for two seasons now with Premiere Pro. First on CS6 and now up to CC. Name a camera, format and codec and it’s in that series. The Producer uses a series of stringers across the country to shoot this series and we’ve gotten every Panasonic, Canon, Sony and even RED camera footage along with all the DSLRs and GoPro footage. That’s one of the beauties of Premiere Pro. We throw it all into one timeline, natively and go.
Originally we were making the switch from 11 years of FCP to Avid when FCPX came out, but that fell apart in our attempt to do an all native workflow. PPro is handling everything we throw at it for This American Land and another series we have been cutting going on four years now, Science Nation for the National Science Foundation.
We bring everything in natively, final timelines are 1080i / 29.97, shows are currently sent to Resolve via flattened QT file, though I’ve been testing OMF / AAF with native footage workflows from CC to Resolve 10 and initial results are promising. OMF goes out to ProTools for audio mix.
All the materials are brought back into Premiere Pro for final assembly and output. It’s a breeze to cut with and while I discovered a series of Serious Errors during a recent run of work, Adobe has been addressing that situation and all should be fine on that front shortly.
We have a mix of Mac Pro and iMac for primary editing off a 100TB Small Tree shared storage array. All systems are connected via 1Gig and 10gig Ethernet, no fibre or control software necessary. We actually have 24 computers connected to the SAN from our librarian and project manager to the clients to the actual workstations. Makes it super easy to manage and edit a series.
[Michael DeJohn] “I’ve searched high and low for a solid, full bodied workflow using the Adobe CC and come up kind of empty handed. I’m interested by applications like Prelude and how all of this could work for our post team but want to make sure we go about it the most efficient way possible. “
Adobe has been putting out success stories for a while and on my various Blogs I did some extensive posting on our transition from FCP to Premiere Pro. It hasn’t been flawless but for our needs, PPro is working out really well for broadcast.
