Premiere Pro CS6 on an iMac?
Posted by Ken Bennett on September 28, 2013 at 5:56 amI’m about to purchase a new iMac 27 and would like to run Premiere Pro CS6 on it. I’ve hear too many bad things about it not working very well together. What’s the truth? Can an iMac support CS6?
What configuration should I get in the iMac?
Thanks.

September 28, 2013 at 12:00 pmPremiere Pro runs just fine on an iMac. I have a three year old iMac at home and two 1 year old iMacs at the shop and we’ve been running PPro on them for almost 2 years now.
That being said, there is no comparison between CS6 and CC running on the iMacs. Whatever Adobe did under the hood, CC is operates much faster and smoother than CS6.
But there’s no issues running CS6. Be sure to max out the RAM to 32GB and get that upgraded graphics card.

I’m using a 27” iMac, 32 GB ram, 256 GB SSD with Pegasus R4 and AJA IO XT. It runs fine, definitely not as fast as my Z800 though. I have both CS6 and CC on my iMac and Z800 and, unlike Walter, i see no speed improvement whatsoever between CS6 and CC…of course CC offers some extra features but, again, no improvement in speed.

i7, because it supports hyperthreading and the i5 does not. Hyperthreading allows the computer to execute two threads simultaneously on the same CPU, giving you four virtual CPU cores in addition to your four physical ones.
[Ken Bennett] “GeForce GTX 675 (1GB) or GTX 775 (2GB)?”
I’d suggest you go for the bigger and faster graphics card if you can afford it, as this is not upgradeable later on the iMacs.
