Try a used monitor at http://www.bcs.tv
You might be able find something close to $600, such as a Sony PVM or Panasonic 13-14″ broadcast series. I sold my PVM-14″ for $600 almost a year ago.
Also try eBay. Again, look for a Sony PVM series monitor.

[Vincent Rice] “QT7 with Tiger is supposed to allow simple video capture.”
Yep, I just downloaded it and purchased the Pro update which does allow video and audio capture. It’s not installed on my Kona 2 system right now as I’m in the middle of a project so I don’t know if QT 7 will recognize the inputs from a capture card, but I’m betting it will.

I picked up the nVidia Ultra 6800 a few months ago and Motion screams even with the two monitors hooked up to it. I have the 23″ and 17″ Apple Displays which are both connected via Apple’s ADC – DVI Adapters. They’re about $89 each and I needed them since the 6800 only has DVI connections.
I don’t have enough room in either of my G5’s for two graphics cards so the 6800 fits the bill nicely, though I may try out one of the new ATI’s shortly.

[ange] “not really sure about this 6pm stuff. but i had my tiger at 11:30 fed ex. i am putting it in / upgradeing now.”
Apple bungled my order and notified me at 2pm yesterday (Friday) that I would not be receiving the order even though it was ordered over 2 weeks ago.
I got an email this morning that it will arrive on Tuesday. Gee, glad I preordered it so it would arrive on the release date. I guess next time I’ll just go down to Fry’s and pick it up there.

April 30, 2005 at 1:29 pm in reply to: cant get DV to play out of konaSD, only freeze frames…[weevie833] “I would say that if your DV footage is not playing, try using the native DV NTSC setup just to get it to play, then try other settings. “
Actually, that’s a great point, change your Easy Setup to DV-NTSC and it should work fine. I find that anytime I get the K2 not playing back footage correctly, I default back to an Easy Setup and it generally cures the issue.
Good point weevie.

[Bob Zelin] “but in the HD project, we can’t do an assemble edit “edit to tape”. “
I’ve had no problems editing to tape with both Firewire control and RS-422 control. Make sure the RS-422 is set to the Panasonic 59.94 setting.

April 30, 2005 at 1:26 pm in reply to: Apple screws us once again QT7 is not better than QT6._Pro[ange] “we have FCP support 24/7/365 and i said hey i have tiger here but it only has QT7, not the pro version and FCP likes the pro version. “
No, FCP doesn’t “like” the pro version, it just needs Quicktime installed to run. You get all teh “pro” features of Quicktime via FCP. YOU like the pro version, not FCP.
FYI, I paid the $29.99 today even though I have two full FCP Suites coming next month and am having fun testing out the H.264 codec for my website movies.

April 30, 2005 at 1:24 pm in reply to: Anyone want mixed formats in the same timeline badly? More than multicam?[Neil Sadwelkar] “That’s not true…
You can create a duplicate of your sequence, make offline clips and capture these clips which have only media used in the sequence plus handles you specify. And you can retain your original sequence linked to the original full media. “That has never come remotely close to working over here. FCP always captures the entire raw media or it wants to capture clips that aren’t even in the Sequence. The only way I get it work remotely useful is to use the Copy method Media Manager.

April 30, 2005 at 11:12 am in reply to: Anyone want mixed formats in the same timeline badly? More than multicam?[Sean ONeil] “If you want the same simplicity on Final Cut – go ahead. Change your Easy Setup, highlight the clips, ctrl-click and select “batch recapture”. How is this so different or more complicated than Media 100? “
We’re talking about recapturing just the finished Sequence. Even if you highlight the clips in the Sequence, FCP will recapture all the raw media from those clips, not just what’s in the Sequence. Media 100 would only capture the exact media in the timeline.
Media 100 always had the best codec in the business so to call them a joke is a bit harsh. Their systems earned my salary for 6 years and without them, I never would have learned After Effects so well.

April 29, 2005 at 11:56 pm in reply to: Mixing Resolutions on the same time line. final cut pro[Barathron] “I have to say that it was a big dissappointment that FCP 5 didn’t include the ability for a mixed timeline. I figured that feature was a no brainer like multicam. “
What confuses me is how was CineWave able to offer this feature well over a year ago and no one else is offering it today? If it’s so easy to do, why doesn’t BlackMagic, AJA or Aurora include it in their feature set? Apparently it must be much harder to accomplish than we all think since in one year no one else has stepped up with the feature.
The one really nice thing on the CineWave side was the ability to play back animation+alpha movies in realtime. That was sweet.
