Motion 2, does it have a capture tool
Posted by Zman on April 27, 2005 at 10:29 pmI was wondering and looking to see if M2 has a capture tool for video in it. I have be asked to do some stuff in M1 and have no need to use FCP except to get the video captured, would be sweet if M2 could capture video.

April 28, 2005 at 5:44 amNo, I don’t think it does. Most motion graphics applications depend on another application for capturing and printing to tape. That said, notice that Motion particularly shines with uncompressed boards like Decklink or AJA Kona and those boards usually come with simple (and free) applications for capturing and printing to video. If you’re doing just DV, you could use Final Cut Express or an even lower priced capture application like BTV Pro (sharewre).

Yep, I just downloaded it and purchased the Pro update which does allow video and audio capture. It’s not installed on my Kona 2 system right now as I’m in the middle of a project so I don’t know if QT 7 will recognize the inputs from a capture card, but I’m betting it will.

April 30, 2005 at 4:45 pmHi Walt; the QT7 recording inteface is a bit clunky; its set up more for iSight cameras etc. and I suspect it is a work in progress. I am sure it will recognise your card (my AJA io shows up). You have to set the encoding to ‘input native’ and it looks for all the world that it is recording at half resolution. Scale up the result by x2 and it is fact full res! Not particularly solid in its present incarnation but I suspect there will soon be some simple 3rd party utilities for this sort of thing soon.
