Look at the AJA Io. There are three versions. The full Io features all analog and Digital I/O for the Mac along with RS-422 control. The Io LA is just Analog I/O and the Io LD is just Digital I/O.
For full on HD, look at the AJA Kona 2. It’s works perfectly in conjuction with the Io series and offers full 10bit SD and HD on the same card for around $2,000.

It works perfectly and like the CineWave, Kona 2 will output both HD and downconverte SD simultaneously. I switched from Cine to the K2 and it’s a pretty seamless transition.

Not completely necessary but certainly a nice option and the SDI signal is a bit cleaner. I have it installed on my PVM20L5/1 and it does have a better image than the Component, especially when working with digital originated footage.

The J3’s been such a great workhorse I’m looking at the JH3 right now which is the HDCAM version of the player.

Jim one thing I did over a year ago was to purchase a Sony J3/902 for all my Beta playback via SDI. BetaSP was pretty much the only thing left for me to worry about Component inputs so by purchasing the deck for a client who shoots all DigiBeta. I’ve found even my BetaSP looks better playing down SDI than Component. It’s a player only, but has been a great investment in our shop.

It’s a progressive mixed format monitor so it’s a computer monitor AND video monitor. How accurate is it for NTSC specs? Pretty darn good as far as color and contrast.
I wouldn’t use it for final color correction, but certainly for field monitoring and even in my secondary suite, it’s outstanding. I would never believe it without seeing it.

Perfectly reliable here when I do this method. Again, as long as it’s one drive and the camera going through the drive, it’s no problem at all.
Sure it’s better to separate the devices, but if you can’t it’s not a problem.

Steve, the deck performs Edit to Tape (Assemble Edits) here all the time via Firewire control from Final Cut Pro. It’s not perfectly frame accurate, but it’s generally good within 2 frames.

Absolutely. I’ll second Bob and Gary on this one, Io LA is the way to go for Component input with a K2 system. The best thing about the Io is that it’s an external box and you can move it from system to system. In my case, we have two suites plus a mobile system so the ability to move a box around to the system which needs the Analog input at that moment is extremely helpful which is why whenever we actually need an analog source again, I’ll pick up the LA that very day.
