Vicious rumor. I’m just checking all my Easy Setups and there are multiple AJA Kona 2 DVCPro 50 easy setups, including the ability to capture 8 or 10 bit sources to the DVCPro 50 codec.

Panasonic. I wss told by my Panasonic Rep that the unit has “one set of electronics” so that’s why the machine is so “dumbed down.” Don’t ask me what “one set of electronics” means, because I don’t get it either. Seems like RS-422 control during an edit is a pretty basic thing for a $32,000 deck (with all the options added like mine)

Using the DVCPro HD codec, yes.

Yep, though now I’m running them as individual units for more flexibility in both suites. They run great in either configuration.

Yep, it even accelerates some fuctions in FCP with the DVCPro HD codec. Basically when working with DVCPro HD, just choose one of the AJA Easy Setups. You can either capture natively with the DVCPro HD codec via Firewire then use the Kona 2 to output everything or you can capture uncompressed HD formats, HDCAM for example, via SDI to the DVCPro HD codec.

Ok, add one more thing…..
Since running the update to 10.4.1 has anyone had issues with Expose or File saving?
Expose won’t work at all on my laptop and whenever I try to save a file in Photoshop, it take anywhere from 30 seconds to one minute to bring up the “Save dialog” with the drives, etc….
Just curious if this is isolated to my laptop or if anyone else is seeing these issues. This is a great example of why I never run OS updates to my FCP systems without trying them on my laptop and my older G4’s first.

Aww, too bad on that one. I went back for a visit recently and it’s so different I couldn’t even figure out where Feeds used to be. And I miss the old “Edit Row” with all the bays down one hallway. It was a fun time, before Fox News came along and pretty much killed the party.

Just click on my Profile and look at the first system on that list. That’s pretty much my “Dream System” setup until the next generation of PowerMacs are released. You can visit my website and look at the setup in the “Wally World” room, though those shots are about 6 months old and don’t have the plasma screen.
I much prefer Medea arrays to HUGE so I run the FCR2X here for Fibrechannel along with a lot of assorted FW800 drives and arrays.
On the Plasma display, decide how big your room is going to be before you go with the 50″. My room is 13 1/2 feet front to back and our 42″ looks perfect in the room. A 50″ would actually be a bit too big for this room.
Add a WACOM tablet and a Bella Pro Keyboard and you’re pretty well set.

So far just a bug either in the deck or the way FCP sees the deck. I’m hoping that Panasonic and Apple addressed this with FCP 5. I have not seen any real TC breaks yet.

If you’re finishing on an AVID, then use the Automatic Duck OMF Exporter. The AVID Editor will be able to open your entire FCP timeline in AVID.
I’m working on a broadcast series where the SD version is being cut on AVID and the HD on my FCP system. She exports an OMF-2 file, I open the entire timeline in FCP, re-capture and even the graphics calls show up. I need to re-create them using Title 3D, but there is a clip in the timeline where they go. Very simple and easy to use. I believe the Exporter is free, but I’m not sure. In any case, well worth the $500 for projects going back and forth between the NLE’s.

I should have mentioned, that the 1200A is part of my Kona 2 system so I don’t monitor via the 1200A. I have seen exactly what Scott mentions at several Panasonic Demos. Almost like a sync issue during playback.

That’s the beauty of working with the Automatic Duck Import / Export, you CAN actually pretty much share timelines back and forth from AVID to FCP using OMF. It’s a thing of beauty and MUCH more efficient than EDL’s.
