  • EDL Question!!! Why only V track 1??? don’t get it.

    Hello
I need a little help with the EDL:
How can I make a EDL
    a) with all the Video tracks together
and b) a single EDL for every track?
It looks like it is only dong V1 and there is no option to change that, it can’t be right. I need to make a cmx 3600, using FCP4.5.
    Hope somone can help here!

You need to make a seperate EDL for every video track. That is how it is done. Machines that import EDLs can only accept EDLs one video layer at a time…even in the world of Avid.

All the editor who accepts the EDLs needs ot do is import the EDLs one at a time and re-assemble the layers. Pretty straightforward.

ok, but why doesn’t it give me the option to select v2 and V3? it looks like I can only do V1?
I selected the entire sequence, do i have to select single tracks?

The reason is that the EDL protocol was invented for linear (tape based) edit suites and is limited only to very simplistic numeric descriptions of things that are possible on that type of equipment. In a linear edit suite there is no such thing as multiple video tracks, clip names, plug ins…etc.

Just make multiple copies of your timeline. One with each of the individual video tracks. Export an EDL from each. Remember, almost no effects info will translate using this method.

That’s the beauty of working with the Automatic Duck Import / Export, you CAN actually pretty much share timelines back and forth from AVID to FCP using OMF. It’s a thing of beauty and MUCH more efficient than EDL’s.

If you’re finishing on an AVID, then use the Automatic Duck OMF Exporter. The AVID Editor will be able to open your entire FCP timeline in AVID.

I’m working on a broadcast series where the SD version is being cut on AVID and the HD on my FCP system. She exports an OMF-2 file, I open the entire timeline in FCP, re-capture and even the graphics calls show up. I need to re-create them using Title 3D, but there is a clip in the timeline where they go. Very simple and easy to use. I believe the Exporter is free, but I’m not sure. In any case, well worth the $500 for projects going back and forth between the NLE’s.
