If you have a Fry’s Electronics near you, they have about a dozen or so projectors to look at. CompUSA usually has a few along with MicroCenter.
Our local COSTCO and BJ’s Wholesale usually have one or two models on display.
Might even want to look at the Best Buy and Circuit City websites to see what they’re offering these days.
You really need to just go and look at them. I’m sure just about all of these stores would allow you to connect your laptop to the projector to see what that looks like.

Add a “New Effect” to the track you want to work on the opacity.
Now make the adjustments using the Opacity Slider.

According to the info I got from AJA, the Kona 2 accelerates HDV functionality like it does for DVCPro HD. I would post this query in the Kona forum and I’m sure one of the AJA guys will answer you.

Yep, that’s why your footage is scaled down to 98%. If you’re working with DV originated footage, you should stay in the 720×480 frame size in After Effects.

Is there a way to change this default?”Sounds like your Sequence Settings don’t match your Capture Settings. That is, the footage you’re bringing into your sequence is larger than the sequence settings. FCP will always automatically scale oversized footage down to fit into the sequence frame.

If you’re just trying to send movies over, use the Animation codec.
If you’re trying to send an entire project over, do an OMF-2 Export from AVID and they can open the AVID project using the Automatic Duck Pro Importer. Works like a charm and I use it here for a broadcast series I’m cutting. They cut the SD version with AVID Adrenaline, export an OMF-2 of their project, then I cut the HD version using FCP with the Kona 2.

I’ll second that. Been using a tablet going on 8 years now and I hate using a mouse. Running the Wacom Intuous 3, 9×12 model at the moment and it’s great.

don’t copy any pro apps using Carbon Cloner. Do a clean re-install of the apps and it should work.

Lower is the correct setting for NTSC DV or SD material. Using “none” will make the graphics look better on your computer screen, but not an NTSC monitor.

Yes, but unfortunately you won’t get timecode, unless this is fixed in FCP 5. With FCP 3 I used to use this method all the time and it worked beautifully, with FCP 4, Apple “broke” the feature.
With FCP 3, the setup was this: On the computer, use the Easy Setup for DV-NTSC which includes the Firewire NTSC control. Start the Deck Recording manually, then use Capture Now on FCP to record both the image and timecode from the deck. Stop recording on FCP FIRST, then stop the deck. It worked beautifully.
If you try this same method with FCP 4 or 4.5, you will get an error in about 1 second “Capture Now has reached the end of the tape…….” The only way to make this procedure work with FCP 4 / 4.5 is to use the “Non Controllable Device” setting in FCP. You’ll get picture, but no timecode.
On our indpendent film shoot this past weekend, we did this method with the Panasonic AJ-HD1200A deck and what I did was to turn on the timecode window. So we rolled with non-controllable device settings, but I can see the timecode on screen. This is fine as we’ll do the rough cut with the window burn DV and then recapture all from the original DVCPro HD tapes later.
