Boris Continuum Complete should really be a standard plug-in set for any editor as it’s just full of all “widgets” you need for many effects. The Chroma Keyer is certainly outstanding as are the film effects.

It’s not bad. What I think is missing is the line doubling of many hardware based upconverters. We’ve had to upconvert via a Terranex for a show I’m working on now and it’s much cleaner than the Kona 2 upconvert because there’s clearly line doubling. With the footage upconverted via Kona, you could clearly see some “jaggies” on round surfaces from the interlaced footage

When you add a filter it causes the video to go out of sync with the audio? that’s a new one on me. I have the Kona 2 and am cutting both DVCPro HD and 720p uncompressed and can add filters all day with nothing like that. Do you contact AJA?

Yes, DVD Studio Pro 4 is included in the Studio bundle.
As for BlackMagic, we have a forum here on the Cow for them so I would suggest you look through that forum to see how users like the products and you can also post your query over there.
I prefer the AJA Kona 2 myself.

3. Cinewave”Forget CineWave, the product is dead and not worth purchasing at this time. Plus you would need to spend too much money to get the HD Breakout Box over Kona 2 or Blackmagic.

* some basic effects”CineWave is the only product that offers realtime chroma key or alpha channel. But again, the product is basically dead so you’d be on your own for tech support.
2 – 4 video layers and the other things you mention are wholly dependent on your system, and what format you’re running, not the video card. Look to get a Fibrechannel Array if you’re looking to get up to four channels of 8bit SD.
Component In will require an analog input device. Neither Blackmagic or Kona 2 HD cards offer component inputs on-board. You’ll need to add something like the AJA Io LA for the analog inputs.
I looked at both the Kona 2 and the Decklink cards when I made the switch from CineWave and went with the Kona 2. It’s an outstanding card and I much prefer the external K-Box with all the video / audio I/O there to having the SDI ports right on the card.

Yep, that’s correct.
Are you outputting a 29.97 DF HDCAM master? When setting the editing timebase to 29.97 in a 1080 HD timeline, then you can choose a field dominance. How are you getting your 24p timeline out to a 29.97 HDCAM? Via a converter or straight through your FCP system?
I’m currently cutting a 720/59.94 series which we pass through a Teranex converter to output to HDCAM 1080i 29.97. I’m not getting any interlacing issues with moving graphics or speed changed videos on the HDCAM master.

1080i is an upper field first dominance timeline. So ensure that your Fields are set to Upper Field First.

Looked at the split screen and it just looks like a lot of blur was applied to portion on the right. I prefer noise reduction that retains most of the image quality with adding so much blur. I’m evaluation Final Touch HD right now and noise reduction is one of the things we’re looking at there.
