We do have an Apple Color forum here on the Cow.
I have a DVD available here on the Cow that will get you up and running on Color in about two hours.

December 28, 2010 at 2:35 am in reply to: Having to render a simple dissolve… and every single transition.[Bert Delgado] “My setting are:
Apple ProRes 422 at the Sequence and the same at capturing.”Simply change your Easy Setup to match your Sequence Settings.
[Bert Delgado] “I am using a Panasonic AVCHD camera and although I try to set the Log and Capture to AVCHD, it seems to refuse to take it.”
It will convert everything to ProRes. That’s the editing codec you want to use.

What is your Easy Setup? Are you set to an AJA Kona 1080 / 25 ProRes preset? If not, you’re not feeding video to the VTR.
Are you able to monitor the output directly from the Kona 3 to a monitor and speakers? Do you see picture and hear sound?

[Michael Gissing] ” Frankly I wasn’t asked. I assumed my verbosity had got me in trouble.”
Nah, you don’t have to ask. The leader mechanism is now fluid across the forums that appear like this. Those who keep posting the most will appear across the top.

The only thing I miss is the uniformity of the look of the “leader” images. Some of the avatars are fun, but the standard headshots that used to be across the top made the Cow look more professional than all the other sites out there.
The new concept is very cool though, just wish the look of the leader images was more uniform.

I don’t see a reason not to include both your website and email address in the tag.
Though I will say we’ve not had a “Demo Reel” for about 5 years now and I rarely receive demo reels from freelancers anymore. We have our samples posted online and on Vimeo.com as do most of the freelancers we work with.
So most folks send me resumes with links to their work these days.

December 27, 2010 at 1:36 am in reply to: Strobing during screening of SD footage in HD projectFCP does a lousy job of converting footage so most folks don’t use it for that. It just has lousy scaling controls. You can get better controls in Compressor to make the conversion.
We have the AJA Kona boards here for this very reason. They do full broadcast quality up and down conversions so we can convert any format to whatever we are editing in, in real time In your case I would capture the SD material directly to DVCPro HD 1080 so it matches your timeline.
The bulk of our work is documentaries and news programming so we are constantly converting all sorts of formats for editing. If we receive the files digitally we’ll even digitize from one machine to another. Can’t recommend the Kona boards enough for this.

December 27, 2010 at 1:22 am in reply to: Problem Capturing HDV Tape… FCP won’t caputre full tape without breaks.HDV is notorious for phantom timecode breaks. No clue why, it’s just been that way ever since we started using those decks.
So whenever using HDV decks we set FCP to warn us about TC breaks instead of creating new clips. It’s in the User Prefs. “On Timecode Break” set that to Warn After Capture.

December 26, 2010 at 1:24 pm in reply to: New i7 w/ FCP 6.0 not recognizing Sony Capture Deck[Jeremy Elbert] “Actually I did. Unfortunately I was not aware of that issue, as this is not the first time I have connected a deck to an iMac. This is a secondary machine and the first one I’m positive i connected them will on. Do you have thoughts on how I would know if something was fried in your words. :)”
Any firewire device should be turned off before it is connected to a computer to prevent an electric surge that has been known to fry firewire ports.
Does any other firewire device work when connected to the same iMac? If so, then you most likely have your VTR or FCP Easy Setup set incorrectly to control the VTR. We have three of the M15U’s here and always have the iLink sent to downconvert to DVCAM since we capture via the component outputs to our Kona cards. We just use the Firewire for device control.
