Is there a program that can simply read any and all metadata embedded in a quicktime file and display it out as text? There’s obviously more there than most applications will show – it would be useful to simply have an overview and check what is going on.

This feature isn’t in Resolve yet. At least it wasn’t in 7.0.3;
I’ve asked about it before, as I think it would be of great help in some workflows, especially when the colorist isn’t the one doing the finishing.
It sounds like in your case you could render out the entire textless timeline in Target mode and just lay it in on the FCP timeline under the text – everything should line up.

Yes, actually even more frustrating when different browsers display Quicktimes differently, even h264.
I agree that not everything can be uncompressed, time and space issues and all but I’m still looking for that perfect special effects round trip workflow and format – and I’m usually too scared to go with ProRes444.

Wow, absolutely fantastic update! I’m traveling for Christmas – is it bad that I now want to get back to my studio to try the new stuff out?!
List of features sounds superb – in addition to things already mentioned I’m really excited to try out is red meta grouping and copy paste. Coincidentally I’m just working on a project where the DP was, ahh, rather loose with his red settings on set, and I have to do a lot of fixing.
Merry Christmas to you guys!

Hmm never knew that but I’ve always tried to stay away from 4444 – in Color there was always a gamma shift when grading DPX and I gave up trying to figure out why.
The other problem is, looking at picture in Quicktime is a total crapshoot – there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how it displays things and why.

December 14, 2010 at 11:01 pm in reply to: switching wave between davinci and colorActually that’s an interesting insight – but doesn’t it mean since you guys bypassed Tangent’s software, the chances of us getting a proper mappable client from them (like they have for Color) are slim?

December 14, 2010 at 7:27 pm in reply to: switching wave between davinci and colorThis last method is the one that seems to work best. It seems that Resolve’s Wave driver is running regardless of the application – even with Resolve quit the interface buttons all still work.
When you launch color on top of that, things can get goofy. It’s of course annoying to have to launch Resolve, set the setting, and quit. Good thing Resolve starts up so quickly!

I think if you right click in that area there’s a popup menu to reset shapes. If you click that all shape data will be reset and you can start over.

November 23, 2010 at 9:47 pm in reply to: Logitech G13 users – gather around pleaseYep the g13 is a life saver since Wave support is still a bit lacking. Buttons I couldn’t live without on the fly are loop mode, and all the various add node/add outside buttons.

Aha, another resolve panel only feature. I’d be curious to see what the full list of those is.
