Nodes are kind of like Color’s tabs. Having 2 nodes is like having a primary, and 1 secondary tab available to you and that’s it. You can do a lot with that, but then again there’s even more you can’t do.

I think there’s going to be a whole group of people who will go “hooray, we can tinker ourselves some color correction” but honestly those people already do it anyway. They do it in FCP or in Apple Color which comes with FCP. Or they do it with Magic Bullet.

I was actually talking to someone a few weeks back who asked me “are you worried about your field when there’s tools like Looks around that can just do it for you?”

I think in the end those people are not and have never been our client market, and if someone forced them to be they probably wouldn’t pay very well either.

Any details on multi-track and blending? Are alpha channel titles going to work? Can basic chromakeys be pulled and layered?

You guys are awesome. Seems like another strong NAB for you!

  • I think that’s all I mean – the only graphical UI Resolve has is the RGB sliders for shadows/midtones/highlights. They are a type of graphical representation of what your primaries are doing. It has no hue/saturation wheel.

All I was trying to say is that it takes longer to do things with RGB sliders than with an hue/saturation wheel.

  • [Adam Claude Jones] “You mean Resolve has not color wheels like all the other color grading apps and even FCP, Vegas, After Affects and pretty much any program which deals with color?”

    Precisely.

  • Well, the wheel itself is the “graphical representation” I guess. It maps to the traditional hue wheel (that you just memorize). So you can spin the Wave wheel towards upper left and get warmer tones like you’d expect.

If you’re driving resolve with a mouse, you’re literally adjusting RGB sliders which seems like it’d be a lot harder.

I guess someone with a probe should take readings to see how good it is actually, but to my eyes it’s pretty darn good.

It’s an IPS panel with LED backlighting, so as far as LCD panels go it’s on the higher end.

Please post your experiences with that! I’m considering switching over to Premiere for prep and finishing ever since I heard about their XML support.

  • Way I do it… could be wrong way:

Set r3d metadata to as shot
Select all clips in color timeline, change metadata just for fields I want, and press “apply changes” which only modifies the parameters you changed. Retains all settings but the ones you modify.
