Interesting – so you have a premade grade with a bunch of empty nodes that you later fill in? That’s actually a really nice idea I’ll probably try out.

In terms of scopes, I would love for them (as an option) to be a tab that can either replace the Viewer temporarily, or perhaps the stills gallery, instead of a floating window.

Blend modes are available on the timeline, so you could take the same clip and layer it on top of itself on different tracks, apply different corrections to each layer and set them to different blending modes. Perhaps not elegant, but doable.

Most everything else I can think of can be done with the regular node tree.

I think you would have to be more specific. There are a lot of different nodes in Color’s FX tab, and lots of different effects can be achieved in Resolve in different ways. There’s no 1 to 1 translation between the two tools.

I tried a similar test with near-clipped highlights and results coincide with yours – with 16 bit debayer, fussing with ISO doesn’t seem to matter all that much.

I did a similar thing to Robbie. I created film grain in After Effects on a 50% grey layer. I rendered out a 30 second chunk. Then I brought that in to a top video track in Resolve and set the blending mode to “overlay” – i was able to control grain intensity by adding contrast to the grain layer.

Check out Force Conform on page 156 of the new Resolve manual. I think that’s what you’re looking for.

When you add an RGBA clip as a matte, its node comes up with 4 outputs – I think each output represents each of the 4 channels.

I don’t know the answer to your question unfortunately, but seeing that layout made me remember something I’ve wanted as an option for a while – to have the scopes be in a “tab” as opposed to floating. Would be really useful esp with larger monitors.
