Try installing the font in Adobe Font folder. Since you are on Mac, the correct path is : Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts.

the pen stroke does not show
Do you want to create the pen stroke in After Effects? If yes then you can use Stroke Effect(Generate>Stroke).

You may need to answer the following questions since the info is incomplete:
What version on AE you are working on?
How much RAM and What Graphic card is installed on your system?
Which effects you have applied to the footage?

having to drag things from the bottom to the top of the list is ridiculously time consuming.
You can use “Cmnd + Shift + ]” or ” Cmnd + Shift + [ “ to directly move the layer from Top to Bottom and Vice-Versa.

I don’t think so. But you can give your 2D landscape image a 3D depth by cutting out different elements using mask tool, displacing them in Z-Axis and a camera movement with Depth of Field Enabled.

I read in Adobe’s forum that a guy enabled the Collapse Transformation Switch of the Precomp and the effect worked. Though It does not make any sense but you can give it a try.
