After Effects has always had issues with mp3s. The most common being pops and skips. You would better off converting to wav before importing.

I usually just use a round shaped feathered mask (or two) with a slightly feathered Magnify effect on top.

Does that softness go away in the preview window when the video is paused? If so, it’s that your preview is set to draft or auto quality instead of best quality.

Let it go for a while, by that I mean a half hour. Adobe does mention this issue in their help file and simply recommends waiting for the file to be processed.

  • Well, in my case, editing strictly in the timeline does give Premiere a whole more to chew on as far a system performance go.

In fact, there are many things that I used to do in the timeline such as resizing and cutting clips that would cause Premiere to freeze on rendered footage.

A corrupted footage though can be the cause of many things. Moving projects between drives, or USB sticks, even a bad hardrive wouldn’t surprise me. Also, if you are saving manually that often, I would look into changing the name once in a while.

I have never noticed changes in quality when moving an axis, but there a slight change in quality when zooming in a picture, or footage regardless of its native resolution.

Now, are we talking about quality in the preview window, or in an export, and is this uncompressed?

I have, by the way learned not to trust what I see in the preview window, weird things happen there that are not actually in your export (Thankfully !)

  • It should still auto save… If it’s corrupted, there’s probably not much you can do. You could try importing the project inside a new project, but the likeliness of that working is pretty low. If you have to go back to the autosave files, Premiere should ask you to locate the missing footage.

Yes if you add effects, no if you are only doing straight cuts.

It really depends on the card. Some like Nvidia may use proprietary codecs, others will let you choose the type of file to save to.

Either way, the quality isn’t usually up to any standard. If you can borrow a digital camcorder, you may be able to use it as a bridge to firewire using its analog input. The other option is using a Canopus ADVC box.
