Analog capture using HP computer and Premiere Pro 2.0
I have an HP computer with composite connectors on the back. I can hook up a VHS deck, and then record video using the HP Media Center sofware. I can then play back the video and watch it through HP Media Center, but I can’t do a thing with the file in Premiere. I realize the file type isn’t compatible, but I’m wondering if anyone out there has used their computer so that Premiere can capture the analog VHS signal using the component inputs. I just don’t know how, or even if there is a way, to get Premiere to read the input from the composite in instead of the firewire port.

It really depends on the card. Some like Nvidia may use proprietary codecs, others will let you choose the type of file to save to.
Either way, the quality isn’t usually up to any standard. If you can borrow a digital camcorder, you may be able to use it as a bridge to firewire using its analog input. The other option is using a Canopus ADVC box.
