If you are keeping your media on a network or an external HD, that may be the issue. Once you have all the media linked up, use the project manager and select “copy to a new location”, see if that solves it.

Well, a single bar will not require a plugin. The bar level is simply affected by the volume in the track.
I actually never tried an entire spectrum, but using an EQ effect, you should be able to isolate frequencies for each bar in the spectrum.

BTW, there is a plugin particularly designed for that, it’s Trapcode Sound Keys.

Without plugins… You can try this:
Make a copy of the clip, and put it above the original. Apply the gamma correction effect, and bump it up to 1.
Then apply a blur effect, you can play with the amount to get the desired effect. Then apply the set matte effect, change the “take matte from layer” to your original clip. Change “use for matte” to luminance.
That has worked pretty well for me in the past. It will basically give you a nice glow in the lighter areas of you footage.

For that, you’ll need After Effects. There is a tutorial there for a single bar going to the beat of music. You can add more bars for specific frequencies with a plugin, or using EQ effects.

Are you working with uncompressed footage imported from say “After Effects”

If those effects were done in Premiere, then 8 bit YUV should be the setting to use.

By default Premiere creates stereo tracks which can’t accept mono clips. What you probably did was drag it right below the timeline, which automatically created a new “mono” track. There are a few ways to make a mono track stereo, the one I usually use is the “Fill left” or “Fill right” effect.
