in PP2, Project>Project Manager. “Collect files and copy to new location”. You can also include the preview files and audio peaks if you want them.

Hey Charlie,
To be honest, I find After Effect almost always renders better on text and graphics than Premiere, and it should after all, that’s what it was buit to do.
I haven’t experienced the particular issue you are having, but if you have the production suite, I would definitely stick to AE or Photoshop for anything text or graphics; it may take a little longer, but you’ll probably end up saving time.

It is likely that your audio meters are getting close or into the red, you need to either reduce the overhall volume (to around -6db), or apply the dynamics effect with compression.
Other reasons include errors in the original audio track (happens in DV sometimes), this causes more of a drop, or a sharp short high frequency pop.
Certain exports do cause a slight gain on audio tracks, so the audio peeking is pretty likely. As far as 48k vs 44k, I would just try to match the original. But that “shouldn’t” cause issues, at least it never does in my case.

For HDV, take a look at Cineform. Without it, well, you already mentioned it…

Dave, 64 bits has been evolving over the last few years, and unfortunately, XP was never up to the task; let’s hope Vista will be. Look at how few applications running 64 bits there are out there… The OS has to support it fully before Adobe releases a 64 bit version of anything. Apple isn’t there either…
I think we’d all like to see great performance, but if that means having to save every 10 seconds, I’ll live with what I have.
Cheers,

On a side note, unless Vista is proven to run Premiere faster because of some internal design, it’s likely it will run slower just because Vista is a resource grinder.

I’m not saying that Adobe hasn’t been working on coding for Vista, of course they have, be it 32 or 64 bits, but expecting PP2 to work on it the day Vista is released ? Either way, it will probably require a major update (let’s hope not), but that also makes marketing sense…

Yep, Mpeg2 is sketchy, and no, it isn’t fully supported by Premiere. A different GOP setting may be causing you trouble, but I wouldn’t count on any reliable regular import. Are you saying that the exact same file, that you imported earlier, no longer works ? If that’s the case dump your preferences first (Ctrl+Shift at startup)
Good luck,

I have, it was a fun 5 second installation process 😉 and forget about it… 32 bit isn’t any better from what I have heard.
Really, you should only plan on it for the fun of it, there is no way Adobe had planned any of the many OS changes ahead of time.

If you have Quicktime Pro, you could try doing an uncompressed AVI export from there on the original clips, otherwise, I would export again to AVI from AE instead; the Quicktime export from QT Pro will of course be much faster.
In fact, I no longer even try to work with Quicktime in Premiere, just like FCP doesn’t speak AVI, PP2 is very QT unfriendly. Must be (or was) an Apple <> Adobe conspiracy 😉
Half the time the audio track will not show up, or will pop / drop. Of course, it also depends on the codec you chose. The animation codec doesn’t give me many issues in that case, but most of the time, all bets are off.
