You want to see your video without any distortion, that means seeing your preview pixel to pixel. Ideally that would actually be a broadcast, monitor as regular TV screens are nearly impossible to calibrate.
That also applies to After Effects where your preview at 100% will only fit half the screen), upscaling in AE will just look awful.
So, I would definitely use the 1080 monitor as preview. That also gets you additional real estate on the desktop which is really useful.

Got it, I thought you had a continuous recording. Then you might try to synchronize via audio. Once your clips are in the timeline, select both clips > Synchronize and choose audio. Makes sense?

Hi David,
Try right clicking on the clip Modify > Timecode. You can match to a current frame of change the starting timecode value.

Use software like playback pro for the video and make the slide show audio the click track, and send that to the in ear monitors.
If sync isn’t super critical, you could just have the playback person start the video when the drummer hits his sticks at the beginning of the song, use black at the beginning of the video to cover that section and you should be fine. Always run a backup playback.

You’ll have to define grainy. If you mean pixelated, then you need to up your bitrate.

Hi James,
I’m assuming you don’t need the audio on your end, so why deal with embedded audio in the first place?
Just take a thunderbolt to DVI out and split that out for all your inputs, then take the audio out of the Macbook via USB DI or 1/8″ mini analog and split that to all your audio inputs?

I personally wait for it to be done before export. Most of the conforming you see has to do with the audio which is optimized for playback.
Since audio is rendered again at export time, I don’t think it matters that much, but if any media is marked as pending, that’s a different story.
