    Lori,

Here in NYC I get between $50 and $65 per hour as an editor, depending on the job, facility, client, budget, etc. Most of the time taxes are taken out, some times they are not at which point I slot away 1/3 for Uncle Sam.

I have just taken on my first project on my own FCP system; 6 weeks, documentary, 49 minutes TRT. The budget was fixed at $18k for the offline. I just got the finishing/online for an additional $4400 for 4 days. All the days are 8 hr days. NO OT! This was all negotiated and agreed upon weeks before starting, IN WRITING!

In NYC I know guys who get $1K per day(8hrs) for them and their rig.

I would venture to say that you should be able to get $600 per day and up. I would not go any lower than $600 for the type of work that you are describing.

    Good luck

I have been an Avid editor for almost 10 years now. I just invested in my own gear and went FCP. I am very happy with my choice. There are a couple of things the other box might do but all in all I am very pleased with my gear. I was also able to get into the HD game at a reasonable $$$ amount and the picture is stunning.

Check what you have selected for your playback output settings which I believe are under audio/video settings. Make sure you have the correct playback selected for your output type, i.e. compnenet, etc.

July 29, 2005 at 4:48 pm in reply to: Kona 2 or Decklink HD Pro card?

I opted for the Kona 2 on the recomendation of an engineer friend of mine, and the fact that I was also getting the Aja Io. I also liked the available B/O box for the Kona-2. I am not big on B/O cables hanging from the back of the CPU.

I haven’t seen the quality from the HDLink but I am VERY happy with the quality of image from my Kona products and FCP.

I checked out the DVmatte pro. I have Sapphire so I don’t need all the power of Continuum vbut I do need a good keyer. It looks good. What about compatability with the latest version of FCP 5?
