If you’re working in DV take a look at Douglas Toltzman’s Vkey and Chroma Keyer https://oakstreetsoftware.com/

Am working in DV now but resing up to 10Bit Uncompressed for final output.

Then I’d just do it roughly in the FCP chroma keyer, because you’re going to have to redo it in the uprez.

Best to post this kind of question to the manufacturers of the product directly.

But I can tell you this, DVMattePro is an OUTSTANDING product – and if it compatible with FCP5, you’ll get a great key with it.

    Hey Tom,

I took a look at that keyer, seems like the long way around the barn to me. I’ll spend an extra 150 bucks for DVmatte Pro any day. Plus, it’s about to be re-released, rewritten from the ground up.

Have you seen the controls in DVMattePro? You can spend a day and a half in there.

Just to add I’m not saying DVMatte Pro isn’t an excellent product, and that you can’t make a great key with it. Just offering, another possibility.

    Hey Tom,

9 times out of 10 I don’t need all those controlls, but they sure come in handy sometimes. I like them. I’ve gotten used to lots of controls in filters like Gfilm or many AE plugins for instance.

I didn’t mean to poopoo your QT suggestion, I just think it’s an odd solution. If you wanted to change the relationship between your background and your key, you’d have to start from scratch, kinda like doing a tape edit 15 years ago.

“f you wanted to change the relationship between your background and your key, you’d have to start from scratch, kinda like doing a tape edit 15 years ago.”

I don’t understand that. All you have to do is change the alpha type for the clip. It takes like five seconds in FCP. I don’t understand the tape reference at all.
