The HVR-25U outputs in either SD or HD. If you can capture video & Audio in SD from it, you need to change the menu settings on the deck to output in HD thru your firewire.

    good luck

Have you tried opening the project from the AUTOSAVE VAULT? I’m sure you already know this, if you update your project to FCP 6 it will no longer open in FCP 4.

Sounds like you have FCP 4 & 6 loaded on your machine? or are you working between 2 machines?

Not sure about the scroll wheel zoom in/out. I usually press Z then draw a box around the clips I want to zoom in on. Shift Z gets you back out.

April 1, 2009 at 4:32 pm in reply to: Cleaning up your Hard Drive post production

Is the 500 GB drive an external drive or your System drive? Depending on what you are editing and if you are only using firewire 400 it is difficult to tell if the problem is due to a drive not being able to handle your media or not. There is also the possibility that what you have in your sequence is too much for your machine to handle, Full HD for example. here I am guessing you are editing DV. With that in mind 200 GB should be more than enough free space. I do not think that removing temp files like the AUTOSAVE VAULT will solve your slow hard drive message. I have seen this appear when video clips or render files have been mistakenly placed on the System drive. Also remember that the Autosave Vault is your friend for a number of reasons. I would first make sure all your media and renders have been going to the correct place, in this case that external HD.
In FCP I would first right click on the Sequence file in your Browser.
    Select Reconnect media.
In the Reconnect Files window notice your drive in bold type under the main heading ONLINE FILES.
As you scroll down the list make sure all of your media and renders are going to the same place and not your System drive.
Click CANCEL to go back to FCP.

    good luck,

Sorry to hear that, was hoping to meet some of the Cow FCP Forum leaders.

Something that is not a rumor is Smartsound’s integration with FCP. We have been using it here for about 6 months on a series of projects for closed circuit distribution. Library is growing and even tho some of the tracks sound a bit funky you can adjust, isolate, change the mood, etc. I think it will be a great addition if it could be used with the Soundtrack Pro library of music & effects. Imagine what that could do to the boxed music catalogs when audio projects are sold on ebay at bargain basement prices and all you have to do is re-link to Smartsound Sound Track Pro.

Talking about April 20th Walter, will you be speaking / presenting at the FCPUG booth at NAB or Supermeet. I have not seen anything yet posted about schedule on either site. I know the booth is supposed to have hourly demos. Thinking of taking the Advanced Techniques for Final Cut Studio Class on Tuesday. Been editing about 10 years 3 with FCP. Gone to some other classes previously, and they have been very basic show and tell and sales pitches.I already work with the system, own it personally so I am not looking for a sales pitch. Peers in the area are very good, but I am searching for something to push me over to the next level (Just because there should always be a next level). Any suggestions?

    thanks

Do you have a Kona card?
If you have a Kona 3, (sure the Kona 2 has this feature also) there is a TIMECODE tab you can turn USE QT TIMECODE on, switch TIMECODE BURN-IN to Timecode and it reads the sequence timecode being fed out of yor system. We use it when going over work copies so the producers can mark and make adjustments on their log. Saves on a lot of rendering on effect shots.

I also edit XDCam and DVCPro HD on a MacPro Quad 2.66 with 3 – 1TB drives software striped Raid 0 + my system drive. No problems yet, but I always backup my media onto an OWC 2 TB external to be safe. Performance is a bit slower than at my main job, but it does not bother me that much. I’m sure a raid card would beef up performance, as for numbers it would depend on the card. Been looking at one from Cal Digit, but I have put that purchase on hold for now.

  • Do you have IMAGE + WIREFRAME (third button on top of the canvas) selected?

Put the playhead on the clip. Add your first CENTER keyframe where the zoom starts. go to the end keyframe and slide the video in the Canvas down (must see crosshairs to do this) and a new keyframe will be inserted there.

You can also add a keyframe in your motion tab of the clip. Click on the + just to the left of that column. you will see a red + on your Canvas as long as the IMAGE + WIREFRAME is selected. Move around the little red + sign where ever you want.

    good luck.

March 30, 2009 at 4:31 pm in reply to: marking clips in browser as USED

To see how many times a clip was duplicated in a sequence you can highlight the sequence in the Browser and click Apple 0 (Zero) to open your Sequence Settings. In the timeline options tab you can turn on Show Duplicate Frames which will give you a color bar under your duplicated clips in the timeline. This only tells you what is exactly duplicated frame for frame. To adjust those settings you need to go to User Preferences and adjust Dupe Detection Handle Size and Threshold under the Editing tab.

To see what has been used in your sequence you can highlight the sequence in the bin, click Apple F, set the For section to Used Media, click In Selected Sequences to on, and make sure Replace Find Results is selected. This will give you a list of all used media in your project as long as the media information is located somewhere in the Browser. If you grab media from your hard drive and place it directly on your Sequence it may not show up in the new bin.

You can then color Label all the clips in the Found Bin and that will also change the color of the clips in your original bins.

    good luck
