When I used Sony Vegas Movie Studio, I was able to use a scroll (on a mouse or keypad) to zoom in and out in the timeline. It was really useful, easier than resizing the scroll at the bottom of the screen, and was wondering if there was a way I could set FCP so I could do it there too.

Not sure about the scroll wheel zoom in/out. I usually press Z then draw a box around the clips I want to zoom in on. Shift Z gets you back out.

Karen- Tools>keyboard layout>customize> unlock (padlock)> search Zoom>select ‘Zoom in on playhead’>drag to key you want to use>select ‘zoom out from playhead’>drag to key you want to use for zoom out.

I use those two keyboard shortcuts 10 times more than any other keyboard shortcut except space bar.

Love it!! No modifiers or anything!!

The keyboard mapping function of Final Cut is the most robust of any software I’ve ever used…Premier comes close..but mapping with modified keys is really impressive.

    Awesome!

    Thanks Jerry.

I’m actually interested in Karen’s original question. I’ve been a Vegas guy for years, but I just took a job where I have to use FCP. Is there any way to map the Zoom In/Out On Playhead functions to the scroll wheel of a mouse?

I really miss this functionality (and a lot else) from Vegas . . .

    Aloha I’m new here.
I had the same problem. I was using a Microsoft Comfort Optical mouse 3000. Downloaded the software and all that as recommended here – was able to customize different buttons in mouse for Vegas but couldnt customize the scroll for the zoom.

I grabbed another mouse – Logitech M305 and now it works fine.

Using Sony Vegas 9 64bit on Windows 7.
    Hope this helps someone.

I have a different problem now re black screens for my AVI on the timeline – will probably look for the right thread to ask the question.

    Mahalo!
