Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy timecode burn

I have a sequence which runs over an hour and I want a timecode burn over the entire cut, corresponding not with the timecode of the individual clips but with the actual sequence.

I have been trying to accomplish this with both the timecode reader and timecode generator but cannot seem to get what I’m looking for. The closest I seem to get is by using the timecode generator, starting at 1:00:00:00 (for example on the window on the top left of the sequence), then bumping the frame offset in the generator so that it matches. But is is only appearing on that clip and the one next to it. Is this the right direction? And how can I get it to appear throughout the entire sequence?

I have the feeling that there is a very simple solution to this and I might just be overlooking it.

    Thanks.

Make a new sequence. Drag your edited sequence into the new sequence. This is one way to do “nesting.” Now that it is nested, you can place a filter (such as timecode generator) over the entire length of the show.

Do you have a Kona card?
If you have a Kona 3, (sure the Kona 2 has this feature also) there is a TIMECODE tab you can turn USE QT TIMECODE on, switch TIMECODE BURN-IN to Timecode and it reads the sequence timecode being fed out of yor system. We use it when going over work copies so the producers can mark and make adjustments on their log. Saves on a lot of rendering on effect shots.

    All good suggestions. Another –

Insert an empty title (no text) running the length of your program on a new track above your current tracks.

Add the TCG filter to the title.

Easy, just make a new title CG for each frame. How long can that really take? 🙂
