also some people say Mask and some say Matte even though they are very different.

For a simple Matte procedure you can check out one of the three Walter Biscardi Tutorials on Travel Mattes. This will allow you to cut your video to a shape you have chosen.

Yes, 2 of our systems are still G-5’s and I don’t remember them having that problem. The other 4 are Intel’s and all are Leopard and up to date on Final Cut 6 and other programs.

The 2 G-5’s are running Kona 2’s while the Intel’s have Kona 3’s.

Try selecting the Stereo / Mono Control on each pair of audio inputs on your Clip Settings Tab of the Log and Capture window to Stereo Link. De-select the Green Audio Control buttons for channels 3 on down to 16 and leave linked. When restarting FCP and opening the Capture Window you should see only Stereo Tracks 1 & 2 selected.

Worked for me on 4 of our 6 Suites.

Theory is (my own of course and in no way does it bind me to any of the above) the input device connected to the computer is detected by FCP. Seeing that the possibility of 16 channels of audio exist all channels are selected. But when channels 3 – 16 are Stereo linked and turned off this somehow breaks the connection since additional audio tracks are viewed as Mono.

Having the files on the Sonnet drive should be fine. Before deleting the ones on your System drive I would go thru the Autosave to be sure you do not need any of the backup projects. Possibly burn to CD or DVD depending on how many Autosave projects there are just in case.

I usually keep the latest Audosave project from each FCP project and eventually burn to DVD when I have enough to fill a DVD. Thats just in case of a failure. I believe in saving as much as possible after a project is done since DVDs are so cheap.

There has always been a “Final Cut Pro Documents” folder in my System drive:
Users>Documents>Final Cut Pro Documents

The Autosave Vault, Thumbnail Cache Files, and Waveform Cache Files are stored there.

Thumbnail cache files store small representative images of your clips that appear in the
Browser and Timeline.
A waveform cache file contains a waveform overview for audio in your project.

Are all your tapes reacting this way or is it just one tape?

If all your captured (multiple / individual) clips are the same size you might solve the problem by checking off the ‘Limit Capture / Export File Size To’ box located in System Settings>Scratch Disks.

You can also access this menu from your Log and Capture window under the Capture settings tab and clicking on Scratch Discs.

If the cameras were stopped at various times during the shoot it would be difficult to capture as one clip and edit in multicam mode unless each camera was on and off at the same time. Check to see what is selected under User Preferences in the field of ‘On Timecode Break:”

As for adding transitions to a number of clips in the sequence at once…

Select the transition you want and ‘Make Default Transition’
Duplicate your sequence (incase something goes haywire
Place your sequence playhead at the head of the first clip you want to add transitions to
Highlight all clips ahead of the playhead and drag them up to ‘Insert with Transition’ in the Canvas
Final cut will now add transitions to all clips being inserted again into the timeline
