If you are adjusting the smooth selector in the matte it will effect the matte by clipping the points off screen. If so back off on the smooth a bit and resize the image of the woman a few points. 101, 102… that should help a bit.

Try clicking on the Canvas and press Command – (minus) to make the image smaller. Grab what seems to be Point 1 and Point 2 in your garbage matte and drag them higher just off of the video image area till the feather is not viewable. do the same for the bottom points. Adjust the Mask Feather filter.

Are you copying the folders to your drive?
You can copy the Sub folder to see the proxies, but the Clip folder stays on the disc. Use XDCam Transfer to convert / import the files. Make sure the check box in XDCam Transfer / Logging / Subclips is checked on. This tells Transfer to import the checked selection. Highlight the clip and hit import. You can have multiple subclips and only import the checked ones. Also if the disc is not in the player you can not import the video files for FCP to use.

I am not sure how individual clip timecode is being exported but, have you tried Nesting the clips and audio in the edited sequence.

IF you select VIEW TIMECODE OVERLAYS under the VIEW POP-UP MENU in the Canvas you will see each clips Timecode. If you then nest all clips in that sequence you will see the Timecode change in the Canvas according to your Sequence Settings Start timecode.

I personally purchased Shane’s DVD a while back in anticipation of a Very Long Form project being dropped my way in the near future. Well the near future will now be arriving in just a few weeks and I will be using Shane’s tips from Chapter 5 “Large Project Organization” which had a lot of interesting tips over our SAN.

Would be interesting to hear your ideas on Final Cut Server. I have talked with others and we are all working differently with FCServer.

You could try nesting the Video & or Audio Clips.

select adjacent clips then press ‘Option C’ and name your new group (Sequence)

The clips will be nested in a group which can be moved around together. in order to edit them you will have to double click on the nest to open the group of clips.

unfortunately it is not yet a filter that comes with FCP, but as Ernie Santella mentions above the Nattress “Big Box of Tricks” is a bargain for just around a hundred bucks. I think the included transition is called G Glow Dissolve.

when I purchased my last MacPro about 2 years ago I almost purchased one from Apple Certified. A friend mentioned calling a local pro reseller. After just a few calls I was able to negotiate a great deal on a New MacPro for the price of a Referb one on the Apple website. They even tossed in Bluetooth and upgraded my keyboard to a wireless with FCP keys and a wireless mighty mouse. I was also offered Apple Care for my tower at a discounted price.

I have nothing against Referb, but if you are thinking about purchasing two towers it might be a good investment of time to seek out some of your local Pro Resellers. They have good advise and hopefully a great savings for you.

I totally agree with Shane. A good editor knows how to push the buttons, A great editor knows how to take the time to finish the show. Its great fun to piece something together, but sometimes it can be dull getting everything right and finish a project. Storytelling, Timing, Video Levels, Audio Levels… are all as important.

There must be one or two of the 6 at your facility willing to go the extra mile. Quite possibly the most important productions get funneled and finished by them. Kind of an on-line off-line thing. The best attitude is to stay positive. In this economy we all need to go the extra mile. There are many editors out there willing to show off their abilities to a new employer.

If capturing Analog Video (Non-Firewire) you should find the adjustment controls under the Clip Settings Tab when the Log & Capture window is open.
