Advice for Project Workflow?
Hello all!
First off I wanted to say I love the Cow & have visited a ton to look into the forums, news and features. Fantastic! Thanks so much for all the hard work, good advice and community building. I just wanted to give a shout before joining the chorus of forum-goers.
I have a project that is a promotional documentary involving a really cool, innovative K-12 education program surrounding science and technology. The project will result in a 10 min +/- piece boiled down from about 25 hours(!) of raw footage and interviews. The project was shot entirely in SD on miniDV tapes on a Panasonic DVX-100B. Thus far, the tapes have all been captured in their entirety.
In the spirit of ‘what’s the most efficient way to skin a cat in FCP’ I thought it might be cool & educational for myself and others to turn to the community to suggest a couple possible media management workflows for the project.
I feel comfortable with the codecs and so on (I’ve had good results with ProRes and so I will likely haul it all over to that before finishing) but feel free to comment on whatever aspect of the project might be worth noting.

Well, key to working quickly and finding what you need for the cut is ORGANIZATION. Organizing your 25 hours of footage into separate bins by subject matter and type will really help you out. I have an entire DVD that covers various ways to organize your footage. YOu can find that here on the Cow, just click on the link in my signature.
Not to pimp my wares or anything…well, sorta to pimp them. But really, there are tips in there that no doubt will help you with this process.

I personally purchased Shane’s DVD a while back in anticipation of a Very Long Form project being dropped my way in the near future. Well the near future will now be arriving in just a few weeks and I will be using Shane’s tips from Chapter 5 “Large Project Organization” which had a lot of interesting tips over our SAN.
Would be interesting to hear your ideas on Final Cut Server. I have talked with others and we are all working differently with FCServer.
