I wanted to know how to mask video in Final Cut Pro 6, I am sure there are options to do so, can someone please help me with getting started. I want to be able to mask video and maintain an alpha channel.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sebastian

As Dave says above, “How elaborate does this mask have to be?”
also some people say Mask and some say Matte even though they are very different.

For a simple Matte procedure you can check out one of the three Walter Biscardi Tutorials on Travel Mattes. This will allow you to cut your video to a shape you have chosen.

    Hope that helps,

[Dave LaRonde] “You soon learn why good roto artists make The Big Bucks. “

    If only!

Roto is considered the entry level position in a compositing pipeline. They even have a term for it: “Roto Monkeys.” Doing roto in the compositing world is like being a runner in the editing world. Someone on a compositing forum that I frequent has a signature that reads “Roto: it’s a job, not a skill.”

    Sad but true.

Victor the link you sent me was exactly what I was looking to do, I thought there was another way built in to Final Cut Pro filters! I am just happy to know how to do it.

    Thanks all posters,
