I have a few projects that I bring in as Prores 422 to consolidate the mixed shooting formats of HDV/DVCPro/DV into a ProRes HD sequence. The Raid is set to Raid 5 and connected via eSATA from a Cal Digit Fasta2e Card. The box has been very solid. Have not run the speed test lately, but things render quickly (ProRes) as long as all media is comparable format in sequence.

You can Refresh A/V Devices under the View Menu.
Check FCPs Video Playback and Audio Playback settings in Audio / Video Settings.
The output from FCP corresponds with the input of the Kona out to your monitor.good luck,

I installed a blu-ray burner in the second tray of my Mac Pro 1.1. I think it took less than an hour. Most of the internals had to be removed to add a SATA cable.
On the newer machines it is much easier. I believe only the DVD tray is removed and all should be done in about 15 minutes or so.
I use the Blu-Ray burner as backups of media managed smaller projects.

August 18, 2010 at 9:21 pm in reply to: Storage/Hard Drive for video editing? startech? Not exactly sure but that looks like $350 for the box without any drives. ( 0 x HD ) + 4 drives = ?
Hard drive array – 4 bays ( SATA-300 ) – 0 x HD – FireWire 800, Hi-Speed USB, Serial ATA-300, FireWire 400 (external)
I use 2 OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro QX2’s that have been great at a bargain price. And they can be used as Raid 0, 1, 5 & 10 . I have them set at Raid 5.

Wasn’t Apple a leader when it came to new technologies? USB 2.0 and Firewire 800? Those are like 7 years old. We need fast I/O, and with the limited number of slots, I usually don’t have any space for another PCI card (esata, usb 3, etc).
Lets not forget Light Peak, said to debut in new Macs in 2010 according to this engadget article

a couple of things I can think of.
As mentioned above, listing the error message on the forum would help.
Is your raid array RAID 0, RAID 5, etc… Can you rebuild the RAID (bad drive as in RAID 5) If you lost a drive in a Raid 0…Sorry.
Where did your FCP Project File Live. Have you checked the Autosave Vault to open the Autosaved project? Does any other FCP project file open?Good Luck,

Although I will not stand in line for hours to buy the $5000 12 core base machine, I am glad to see a departure from the iPod, iPhone & iPad hoopla. A newer Mac Pro obviously geared for Professionals, is a plus in my eyes. Is this just the beginning that will mark a serious return to Pro App development? My only fear is that this will be the Only machine able to release that “Awesomeness”, as Steve Jobs calls it, in the next release of FCStudio.

We capture our archival Digi Beta footage with the AJA Kona 3 for use in our HD projects. Great card.
