Actually, it is. Just make sure you load the clip into the transparency channel. That way the material acts as a gel.

Mylenium, you are a god amongst men. How did you figure that out? I was fidgeting for hours with different projections and front and back options… Now exactly WHY does that work? Mograph works in mysterious ways….

ugh. Yeah. It’s flakey alright. After some experiments i figured out that the problems arise when you animate all rotation axes. So I simplified my animation to only rotate the object on one axis (there’s no parenting involved here, very simple). Horrible solution, but it’s all i have time for. Hope this is something they’re looking to fix, it’s got to be because of C4d’s weird h.p.b rotation system (?)

Arrgh. nope, cant figure it out. I’ve set put the color shader in the alpha channel of a material, put it on the text object and messed with it but can’t figure out how to make it do anything, and the manual doesn’t make me any smarter…
Mylenium, do you cover this in your fantastic mograph tutorial? i must have missed it!!??

What a pain.. thanks for the input guys, playing with the material settings doesn’t help much, and i’ve got many many layers here that need separate lights and shadows. Im gonna end up lighting each layer separately and faking the shadows. Sucks, but it’s taking too long to precomp each layer, each precomp would need a copy of the camera, that’s about 25 cameras to apply adjustments to..

For those who are having similar problems: I’ve found that using spots instead of point lights helps a little since it restricts the light angle. but it doesnt solve the problem completely.
AE’s lights aren’t raytracers, so i guess you cant expect too much.

From now on, when i do 3d work im gonna just stay in the 3d app….

Nice one, thanks Lennart for the tips, it works nice now. You’ll be seeing the results on Tv3 soon ;). One question tho: The lag parameter only works if set to a value at near 0.95. Anything below 0.5 gives no effect and anything above 1 causes the object to shoot away like a missile.
The name of the parameter “lag” suggests that the higher the value the stronger the inertia but apparently not.. am I missing something?

me neither…. After baking the solver I cant tweak the keyframes to perfect the animation…
