Yes, that’s true. Sorry, I was not precise enough. But copying via FW is relatively slow compared to connecting the P2 card to a direct slot.

We have the HVX 200 for just about a year now, and it has been used a lot. Great camcorder, the best in it’s class until now, only the new Sony EX1 might be a a serious contender.
As others said, no degradation by just copying over FW, but you need to know that the native formats (native is a bit misleading, it’s not the codec, but the frame rate) don’t transport over FW. So, the PCMCIA adapter for a MacBook Pro might be something to consider.

First of all, switch off desktop preview in the Decklink card, that’s what’s causing your error message.
Second, you should get an ATI X1900 graphics card, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Your Octo is a great machine, but Color relies heavily on the GPU.
Plus, serious color grading doesn’t come cheap. You’ll need a good reference monitor (which can cost you more than the whole system) and one day you may want a controller (for the price of your whole cMac) if you are ever going to do a full feature length

Sure! For SD you should monitor on a tube anyway to detect interlace-issues.

The Intelli Proof 240 motion from Quato is an excellent option for a decent price, 3.500 Euro including calibration device over here. Have a look at http://www.quato.de (there’s English too).

I can’t answer all your questions right now, but did you know the “German hack” for 50p? I don’t think it’s a good idea to mix the codecs.

Well, we have done this before cheap HD was all around with quite good success for a film trailer, using three images from rotated DV camcorders. The project was graphics heavy, so it was all done in After Effects instead of FCP. What we did:
– de-interlaced all footage with the help of FieldsKit ( http://www.revisionfx.com )
– smoothed chroma with Graeme Nattress’ filter
The results didn’t look like coming from video at all, but recently we did a similar project with a 900,- Euro camcorder from Canon (the HV 20), ingested via HDMI, and it looked as good and was far less hazzle

No, that’s not in FCP, but Motion3 or Compressor.

While it doesn’t hurt to partition anything, it doesn’t make much sense either. Folders are a much more flexible concept for organizing things 😉
