I think you want to use Track Motion to position the 3 clips and use Pan/Crop on each event to make them the same height.

    I assume that you have:
    (a) a clip with an alpha
    (b) two clips, one of which is the matte
    (c) a clip without an alpha and no associated matte

All of these are covered in this DJ training video:

    Hope this helps.

You could also use Process Explorer.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653

    1. Quit Vegas, all instances
    2. Run Process Explorer
    3. Click on the Process column until it looks like a tree
    4. Search for “vegas###.exe”
    5. Each instance should have three children: ErrorReportLauncher, FileIOSurrogate, and sfvstserver

If you have an instance of Vegas here and you don’t see it in the Windows UI, it is probably hung. Kill it with R-Click, Kill Process.

Additionally, sort the view by Company Name. If there are no instances of Vegas, then there should be no entries by Sony Creative Software Inc. I’ve had occassions where FileIOSurrogate or ErrorReportLauncher is hanging around but there is no “owning” veags###.exe in the list. Kill Process seems to work fine (kill them, then relaunch Vegas).

You can see all the threads via: select the Vegas instance, R-Click, Properties, Threads (tab).

FYI, with Vegas 10, a .veg file opened, 1 jpg in the Media Pool, 1 jpg in the timeline on a muted video track … Process Explorer shows over 30 threads “owned” by Vegas.

    Copy to:
    [dr:]\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro ##.#\Script Menu

In Vegas, run Tools, Scripting, Rescan Script Menu Folder
    Run the script.

Alternatively, you could open the clip’s Properties and change the Playback Rate to 0.999. Do the same for the matching Audio track.

I have a Panasonic Lumix ZS6. Takes wonderful pics for a point and shoot and good 720 video. I had ghosting issues. Turns out the 30p video is actually 30, not 29.97. I used John Rofrano’s script and the ghosting was removed. You might want to give it a try.

  • If you want to see Markers on the clip(s) in the Track window, you could use Vegas’ parent-child projects to add your markers.

    1. Put the clip into a .veg and add markers. E.g., M.1a, M.1b, M.2a, M.2b, etc. where “a through b” is a region you want to use.

    2. Nest the .veg from (1) into your parent .veg

    3. Add the .veg to the timeline. Trim it (e.g., M.1a to M.1b, M.2a to M.2b, etc.). The Marker names will be visible on the clip in the Track window.

Essentially, you’re using a .veg as your trimmer. Note that since the markers are independent of the clip, they will be wrong if that clip gets edited.

April 22, 2012 at 9:38 pm in reply to: Question about keyframes

There is definitely something funky with the thread list. I have two browsers open; Chrome (COW logged in) and IE (not logged in). The thread lists are different. Very weird …

  • To have an alpha, you will need: avi (uncompressed), mov (animation), or mov (png). Or a series of png images (as Stephen mentioned).

However, another technique (from a DJ tutorial by D. Eric Franks) to get transparency:
    a. Add track, insert clip
    b. Add FX Sony Mask Generator
    c. Add track below, insert clip
    d. Make track (c) a child of track (a)
    e. Duplicate track (a) [another track with the Sony Mask Generator]
    f. Drag track (e) below track (c)
    g. Change track (a) compositing mode to Multiply

    I.e.:
Track 1 – clip, Mask Generator, Multiply
Track 2 – clip, Source Alpha, child of Track 1
Track 3 – clip, Mask Generator, Source Alpha

April 19, 2012 at 5:37 pm in reply to: Pre-rendering in Vegas

    You could:
    1. Solo your track (eg, clip1 with Neat FX)
    2. Render to an intermediate file
    3. Insert track below (1)
    4. Insert result of (2) into new track
    5. Unsolo and mute track in (1)

New track has the clip with all FX rendered.
    Repeat for your other clips.

If you need an alpha channel, you could render (2) to:
    a. avi (uncompressed)
    b. mov (animation)
    c. mov (png)

    (b) seems to work well in most cases for me.

If you don’t need an alpha, you could render (2) to:
    d. avi
    e. mov (photo jpeg)

    Either should work well.

Yes, I’ve seen your tutorial. Actually, I think I found all your Boris tutorials in YouTube and have already DL-d them (many thanks!). I have lots of Super 8 footage my dad took many many many moons ago. Would be very nice to “up” them to HD.

    I tried matching:
    https://www.borisfx.com/sony/bccsvp/Filter-List.php

    against
    https://www.borisfx.com/units/UnitsList.php

Even made an Excel list of all the names between BCC 8 and Continuum Units, but there were a few I wasn’t sure of.

I’ll take your word for that all are included. Thanks John.
