question about split-screen multi-camera cropping
I’ve posted once here before and appreciate the help you guys have been. On this question I looked for several days for a way to accomplish this, but in the end couldn’t find a way to do something that seems critical/important for split-screen shots.
Here is the setup- If you watch this video, you can see my original composition of 3 cameras running triple split screen in a single composite view:

(turn down the audio, its all raw)I had a very cheap camera set up (3 flips) and just had them mounted in a hand made cardbox form, mounted to a tripod that was extending the cameras through the sunroof to get this footage. Anyways, as you can see the placement of the shots is intended to create a bit of a panoramic effect (the right camera was, sadly, angled poorly and I lost a foot or so of angle for a complete composite).
Once I lined up the shots to work, you can see the top and bottoms needed cropping to make it look even. This is what I couldn’t figure out how to do. I already had to use the Event Pan/Crop to position the footage, so I don’t know how to then overlay a second application to the ENTIRE composite (allowing me to crop the whole image). I tried a number of things but nothing worked.
Finally, I ended up exporting the video you see in the above link, and then using it as source for another project and cropping the entire image with event pan/crop that way. This works, but is terribly frustrating, time intensive and doesn’t allow me to work with all my assets at one time. Here is the result after using a second project to crop the video (and add a tiny bit of title, audio backdrop, etc).

I think you want to use Track Motion to position the 3 clips and use Pan/Crop on each event to make them the same height.

I hate to ask this then– I know how to move and crop in event pan/crop but I don’t know how to position different elements in track motion… the rendering screen that pops up doesn’t make sense to me… I tried playing with the parameters on the left, but can’t understand how to simply re-position each video track precisely in track motion..

Let’s assume your clips are HD, 1920 x 1080.
You want to place 3 of these horizontally, vertically centered across the middle of an HD space. Divide by 3.
Each Track Motion should have the width and height of 640 x 360.
To position them horizontally, the leftmost should have an x value of -640; rightmost x value of 640; center x at 0. All should have a y value of 0.
