For your type of project I found it easier to use a series of Nulls.
Lets say you have three targets. You create three 3d Nulls. Link the camera to the bottom one. The bottom Null to the middle Null and this one to the top null (top/middle/bottom refers to the layer order). Start animating the move to the first target by moving the top Null in position. This will move the other two Nulls and the Camera. Once you get to your first target, start animating the second Null (after whatever number of frames you need the Camera to be stationary in that point). Go to your second target. From here pick up the animation using the third Null. This way each movement is easy to control since you get only two keyframes for it, the camera does not go wacky on you and you can easily adjust the timing.

  • Another way of doing this that I find easier since I tend to design my graphic elements in Illustrator is to create 3 or 4 versions of the same element with slight variations on separate layers(really easy to do with a vector graphic), import that in AE as a sequence and loop it. Then you animate the loop layer to do whatever move you need. To have the element/elements follow a head or hand movement you can track the move, link all graphic elements to a Null and apply the track to that Null.

  • I would crop only if I knew that I do not want to change things later (re-size or move). Vishesh suggested a method or you can do it in PSD. However, at the size you are working with it will not make that much of a difference in AE on a decent machine. You will notice a difference at larger sizes (for example if you crop a 4k image to HD…)

Did you install any drivers- AJA maybe?
Can you preview the elements directly in QT with no issues?

If you want a laptop/mobile workstation, I would go for a more customizable option. Falcon PC or Origin PC for the most options, or Dell XPS, Alienware or HP.

  • Magic Bullet can do the job, however, there is a free Colorista version from Red Giant and tons of tutorials on how to achieve various looks. You can use the plugins that come with AE and Colorista free to create your own presets with no extra cost.

  • Having worked on both sides of “the pond” (as Dave put it), I can share a few things:
1- If you like what you do people will notice
2- Spend nights on a couch in a studio where a senior is working trying to replicate at night what you “steal” from him/her during the day.
3- research the web for tutorials and tips from pros- the information available now is amazing.

Take it from a guy who learned AE with only the manual in the beginning.

Lots of questions for a hard effect!

For a camera dolly you can use several options in AE- you got a couple already. For a more complex one I suggest looking at this tutorial:
    https://maltaannon.com/articles/after-effects/simple-camera-rig/

As far as the zoom/fly in – not an easy shot. You need a few things:
1- A production part, using a crane or a jib for the final part.

2- Good 3d skills to build the house and surrounding area for the part that comes before #1

3- A good understanding of how to do a “earth zoom”
    Tutorial (use in reverse)

  • How are you applying the time remapping? You should precompose all again and enable time remap on that precomp layer.

  • If you have a un-rendered AE comp linked through DL in Premiere you will need to render it either before in AE and replace the linked file with it or use Premiere to render. If when exporting from AE, you have “Project Link” checked, even after you add the rendered AE movie to the timeline, you can open the AE project by selecting “Edit Original” in Premiere. The idea is to be able to be able to go back and forth when you change something in the edit – real time preview for complex AE comps is still a thing of the future.
