February 24, 2015 at 11:23 am in reply to: Scaling a mask to match a layer shape.Create Speech Bubble as solid and animate. Duplicate layer and use as track matte for the Background layer, comped on top of Speech Bubble. Use Matte Choker to shrink the Background to reveal the outline of the Speech Bubble (you may have to precompose the Track matte layer and background and apply Matte Choker on the precomp).

February 23, 2015 at 8:47 pm in reply to: Text Animation with multiple Compositions AE TutorialsTwo things to consider:
Planning is more than half of the work- storyboarding everything and making the flow clear from the beginning will help you plan your animation and will enable you to slice it into segments that can be then pieced together bu transitions (example from the video you posted – grey paper background with vignette dissolves into white background with same vignette, or black element fills screen and moves to reveal next segment)
Creating your elements in a vector program like AI and then converting them to shape layers will enable you to zoom in and out without any quality loss and the manipulation of the shapes themselves in AE.Besides the above, good animation and a few effects should finish the job.

It’s not dots, rather rectangles. Use one instance vertical and one horizontal on a precomp of the logo you want to reveal. Animate masks and blurs inside the precomp to reveal areas of the logo in and out and the one other instance of the logo comped on top for the final reveal as the layer underneath settles in.

The first example can be replicated if you use a couple of instances of Venetian Blinds combined with a couple of Directional Blur, color grading and scaling.
For the second try playing around with the Bad TV Animation preset in AE.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

If the original footage is from a RED camera then you have plenty of color information to bring back details in the sky. Since you have clouds in the shot it will not be blue, but you’ll get a lot of details. I would export a flat uncompressed sequence of files in a format that AE can work with (Open EXR, DPX…) and then do some grading work. Bring back the details in the sky using garbage masks and then tint the sky overall with blue. The final effect will be better than what you have now and you may get what you’re after. I did this kind of grading on a spot shot on RED where the sky was supposed to be blue, however on the day of the shoot we had plenty of clouds. See example below

February 12, 2015 at 9:23 pm in reply to: Explode / distribute shapes in 3D spaceYou can use Card Dance to explode any kind of layer. The trick is to build your text on a grid of squares since you can then assign columns and rows in card dance based on the exact number you have in your grid. My advice, build your own text/font using and animated square that turns to a rounded corners square precomp on a grid and then precomp that and blow it up with Card Dance.

February 12, 2015 at 9:15 pm in reply to: A little hand holding needed on Infographic for new clientNow a days with a thousand and one formats for various systems there’s no shame in asking. Make it look professional and ask details of compression (bitrate, keyframe distance, and so on). Do tests like Dave suggested. I have requests for various versions of compression all the time and I always ask details.

Besides Walter’s advice, I would add the following suggestion:
For anything “organic” try to use data captured from the real thing. If you want the text to move in a more organic way than what the wiggle expression can give you, take a decent camera, use it hand held and shoot something dark on a light wall. Bring that footage to AE and track the dark object. Use the track data to create a Null, then link your text layer to that Null.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

This google search will give you some of the most popular sites for stock images that have people – there’s a cost involved though.
