Create a grid element with thicker lines and apply Matte Chocker on top- play with the controls and that should give you something similar.

  • It sounds like you are going the right way about it. It’s hard to give more specific feedback without actually seeing the shot. Can you post the clip and then maybe one of us can come up with a better way.

  • You could use FreeForm Pro with the Aqua Pack (created by yours truly). You can animate the waves and adjust the texture to your needs.

  • FreeForm Pro would be a nice tool for this. You could use a 2d image of a feather with an alpha channel. Using FreeForm Pro you can displace slightly to give it volume and the distort in 3d to give it a overall curvature. Then you can animate in 3d using the plugin controls. To get fancy, use a real feather, shoot that over some contrasting clean background with some hand interaction, do a track of the feather and generate a Null that can then be used to link the 3d controls from FreeForm Pro to get a more natural movement.

Do a 3d track but not of the whole frame – crop around the can as tight as possible and precomp, then 3d track. Create then a Camera (camera solve) and use that to comp your 3d graphics in. Use Element 2d with a cylinder and custom layer for texture, or Zaxwerks Invigorator or ProAnimator. Both should work nice and allow you to use the 3d camera that was generated by the track.
Of course you need to match lighting, mask out the fingers, create some reflections, shadows and so on to sell the shot.

There’s probably more than one way of doing this, but I think you are over thinking your setup.
Think of each “clone” from the band as a 2d card element that you will pace in 3d space. There is no need to match the camera since there is no camera match move as far as I understand and all “clones” were shot static with no move.
The most important will be to match the lighting, blend the elements together and design camera moves in such a way that you will not reveal the 2d of the “clones”.
For any infinite surface you can apply Motion Tile on a tile layer and then position that in 3d. Blending the surface with the background using a “fog” layer (2d feathered layer set far in z space).
Any foreground 3d elements you can add to the shot will help sell the realism – use Element3d, ShapeShifter AE or FF Pro, Zaxwerks or the like to add true 3d elements in AE 3d comp.

Chris gave you a good way of doing this. I would use a duplicate layer with a feathered mask but apply a color correction using Curves/Levels or Colorista to try and match the contrast and saturation of the rest of the clip. The trick will be to find the right shape and feather for the mask.

This ( Particle Illusion 3.0 https://www.wondertouch.com/pillusion3.asp )can render out moving grass and other elements that you can then use to comp over the photograph and give the illusion of movement in the field of flowers.
