October 19, 2015 at 10:01 am in reply to: Synchronizing character motion with cameraDo you already have a live shot with a camera pan? If so, try tracking the camera to get 3d tracing data that matches your shot (knowing the type of lens used would help). Once you have the 3d tracking data, create a virtual camera that matches the live one, position your animated character in 3d space to your liking and you should get the desired result. That’s about as much info I can give you without more details.

Hit the continuous rasterization button on the precomp layer. This tells AE to “see”the precomp as 3d.
That being said, there are instances in which you may want to keep your layers in one comp. In this case, link all cube layers to one Null, select the shy button on the layers that make the 3d box, but not the Null that controls it, and then hit the hide shy layers button at the top of your Timeline window. This will keep only the Null controlling the box visible but hide the other layers creating a cleaner comp.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

October 13, 2015 at 6:44 am in reply to: Element 3D text position is always different then source textYou can not position it without a bit of work. However, if you position your text layer as a 3d layer, you can generate a Null from Element 3D for your text object and then Shift Parent that to the text layer you initially positioned. That should bring the Element 3D text to the same 3d coordinates.

Flush the cache and re-start. If that does not work, clear the preferences: Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Win) or Command+Option+; (Mac) while starting the program.

October 12, 2015 at 7:29 am in reply to: How to make a stopwatch that can be controlledCreate a continuous animation of the timer and any other elements that need to be connected with it, precomp and enable Time Remap on the layer. Now you can create keyframes where needed to “stop and start” the timer and stretch that one frame for however long you need the timer stopped.

October 11, 2015 at 2:54 pm in reply to: Element 3D text position is always different then source textElement 3D Text is a 3d object that will appear in your frame based on where the camera is. The text source layer is just that- a source for the text shapes, and not for positioning. You have to move the text object using the 3d controls from the plugin to position it.
