You can apply effects to any footage that you can import in AE. SWF will display the ripple effect if it’s rasterized.(select rasterize unsupported features on export)

Use Mesh Warp or Bezier Warp to animate

My take on this: get the biggest, most pumped up MacPro that you can get the financial dept to pay for – HD will come back to haunt you soon enough and you will wish you had made a different choice when you got the new machine. And even if it does not, you’ll have faster rendering anyway.

For volumetric lights use regular AE lights in 3d space like it was suggested and apply Trapcode Lux on an adjustment layer on top of everything

  • Also, if you have 2d layers in between 3d layers that may cause some problems.

November 2, 2010 at 1:07 pm in reply to: After Effects and Premiere: any better way?

render a loop-able gfx sequence in AE with alpha and comp in Premiere over your footage- just make sure you interpret the footage to loop for the period of your whole piece.

deinterlace the sequence on import, then render out interlaced once you have the text comped in(with the appropriate field dominance).

just take a still with a hand holding a cardboard roughly the same size as a clipboard with a digital camera, find a free image of a clipboard, animate in AE- should be easy enough.

Also, here’s a way of making the lights visible (volumetric cone) in AE without trapcode Lux. It’s good to read the whole thing but you can also scroll at the bottom to download the script.

  • Precomp the ear and leave all attributes- apply mesh distort inside precomp.
