There’s really no way you can do that because you can’t change the shadows. You may use a Photo Filter or a grading filter like Colorista to play with the colors and add a golden hue and then bring some details in the blacks (if you have that information), but the shadows never lie.

You can use a rectangular mask to isolate the part of the image you want to keep and then reposition that on top of the video you want to run in the background.

The plugins you mentioned and the test you did will work. One other option is to use Particular with Lights as emitters. You can animate the lights in 3d space in AE and have the particles create a solid line or light streak (depending on the look you’re after).

It’s a combination of Levels and Blur (Lens Blur most likely). You increase the Blur and blow out the whites within a few frames over a cut. Some folks use a radial blur as well under the regular blur (lens blur).

You can use Particular for that, but as the previous poster mentioned- what kind of animation you want to achieve? A bit more specific – an example from YouTube maybe would help.

You can also just precomp the text layer and use the precomp to layer the text in 3d space. This way you change the text in that precomp and it obviously updates in the main comp.

Are you sure that the final product will be played from a DVD? The wide setup makes me think that a HDD player may be used. Try to find out what will be used for playback and that will direct you to solutions.
As far as editing the audio- you should create a low resolution render, letter boxed in a SD widescreen and edit to that. Once done, export the audio. Create a project in AE where you bring the final video and audio sequences, open that in Adobe Media Encoder and export whatever format you may need for final playback.
