Just as a safety, shoot a locked down shot of all hands coming in and out of the frame and laying down the cards. This way you’ll have at least a safety if the rest does not work as planned.
Mocha is a great tracker and it may work if you can split the piece in pieces, but for one long moving shot I maintain my initial opinion- a 3d tracker will be best.

Could it be possible to shoot the hands laying down photos on chroma and build the whole ensemble in post? It may take a bit of planning but I still think you have more options and control.

  • As a non Nvidia AE user, I think it’s worth it. Just do not think of using the native 3d yet (I get the feeling that Adobe will do something about the NVIDIA only issue). All the other new features are great and CS6 is faster.

I would choose a 3d tracker then for this.
I am still wondering why not build everything in AE… what would be the advantage of shooting? You can have a lot more control in post over the camera moves, timing of elements and so on.

It does look like you may have white particles in there as well- not being able to look at your setup makes it hard to tell. Turn off the background gradient and look at your particles on black- that will confirm if the particles disappear or if they are just covered by white ones.

Will the camera move or will it be a locked shot?
Base on that and on how complex the move is you may want to use a 3d tracker.
One other thing to consider is animating the cards that come on top in post.

In the first example you posted I think that a steady cam was used for the shoot with a lot of planning. It is possible that everything was shot @ 4k, with a wider framing to allow for moves, shakes and zooms in post.
As far as the lens flares go,check out Optical Flares from videocopilot – plenty of tutorials on that also.

I addition to Dave’s advice, here’s a few things to try:
Use Find Edges combined with Matte Choker and Levels to create a organic looking matte the can help you comp/transition to your color. Add some Fractal Noise for complexity.
Work @ 32 bit and add a glow.

You may need a 3d tracker- Camera Tracker is an option.

  • One way would be to use a Color Range Key to key out the color from the image and then use the same footage under the layer with the key to color correct for those areas to the desired color.
